Q: what are symptoms of a dog having asthma?
i think my dog has asthma i'm probably taking her to the vet but in the mean time does anyone know how to tellif a dog as asthma? please and thanks!

A: Cats are more prone to Asthma than dogs....Not saying your pooch doesn't have it but, have you thought, especially this time of year if it could be allergies? Or have you introduced something new in the house ( anything from a new hairspray to new carpeting ) that could be setting off a reaction in your little friend? wheezing and coughing are symptoms of several things from a simple cold to heart problems your best bet is to seek Vet care ASAP and keep an eye out for what may be making him/her so uncomfortable...Good Luck

Q: Infant asthma symptoms?
I have a 6 month old son who coughs an aweful lot. Everyday and every few hours. Lately he has even been sucking in air afterwards for a few breaths. Does anyone know asthma symptoms? Thanks so much.

A: I would see about getting him into an asthma and allergy clinic. All three of my girls have asthma and syptoms vary for each child. It does sound possible or it might be a cold. If hes coughing a lot have him checked for RSV which is a viris that is deadly for babies. Good Luck.

Q: do these symptoms show that i have asthma?
i've recently been having trouble breathing-shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and a sense of hyperventilation. it only happens on certain occasions, and especially at night when it feels like i cant breathe. neither of my parents have asthma. yes, I have trouble after exercising, when i'm tired, or when i'm under stress.

A: I have had asthma since I was little. Do you get short of breath when you are exercising? That is the real test. If you do, it is likely that you might have asthma. Before I knew I had asthma, I would exercise, and my lungs would tighten up and I could literally not breathe. I had to actually go to the emergency room. So it's different than just catching your breath. Your lungs actually close up due to the inflammation. If you are concerned, I'd suggest seeing your doctor. If you do have asthma, it's nothing to worry too much about. They'll give you an inhaler (such as advair, flovent, etc), and you'll probably use it twice a day. That'll keep the inflammation away, and you'll even be able to do moderate exercise. :) I just read your additional comment. It does sound like asthma. You should really go see your doctor. I wouldn't want anyone to experience what an asthma attack feels like. It's like the life is draining out of you. When I had my asthma attack, I felt like I was dying. It's horrible.

Q: Loud heart beat, Asthma, Unknown symptoms please help?
When I get out of breath from running (and that's pretty quickly) I get really dizzy, I am out of breath, I can feel/ hear my heart beat in my head (its really loud). My temples are *booming* and I feel Like I`m going to faint, I also loose balance. I`m not overweight or anything like that my bmi Is perfect but I do suffer from asthma, Are those symptoms parts of that?

A: You are just probably hyperventilating. When you run/exercise, it makes your heart race. That is whh they call cardio exercise. Whether you are in good shape or not, you breathe a bit faster when you are exercising. Sometimes you may breathe too fast and because of that you blow off too much CO2. CO2 is a vasodilator. So when you blow off too much it causes your blood vessels to constrict especially around the brain. This is what causes dizziness. Asthma could play a role in it, but all of your symptoms could be just from exercising. When you feel dizzy, take a break and catch your breath.

Q: hi I have asthma, but my symptoms are quite different than the usual, does anyone else have this problem?
I do have all the regular sumptoms of mild asthma in cluding attacks occasionally, weezing, shortness or breath etc. but, I also experience be tired all the time, pains in my chest and upper back, constant uncomfort breathing, aching ribs, dizzyness, sometimes mild heartplapitations, My doctor said these could be from asthma, CFS, or allergies. My allergist says I constantly reacting to things around me. does anyone else feel like this, breathless all the time, or does anyone have advice?

A: i feel like this sometimes, but not all of the time.. try staying away from irritants/allergins, this could be from things you wouldnt normally think of, but basically anything that has a fragrence... the things that make me feel this way are cleaners, perfumes, smoke, insence, air sprays, etc.... try to stay away from caffiene, doing so might help in the heart palpations...

Q: Will a spirometer test cause someone who does not have asthma, to have asthma symptoms.?

A: No...it's just blowing into a machine...kind of like blowing bubbles in milk. A Methacholine challenge will generally produce asthma symptoms but only if the person has asthma.

Q: my doctor told me i had asthma what are the symptoms , but im pretty sure i dont have any allergies?
i also smoke ya i should quit easier said then done. what exactly is an asthma attack. i was also told 90% of people with asthma have allergies. i wont take inhalers because of all the side affects and im not sure if my doctor is right i dont have trouble breathing just a deep breath and sometimes wheezing but that can also be caused from smoking could somebody please tell me the symptoms

A: Asthma is simply bronchospasm and bronchoinflammation. These can be triggered by a number of things, including smoking. You don't have to be allergic. If you get to the point where you are having asthma attacks, ie. wheezing and coughing, then if you don't get treatment you will like die. Asthma kills many people every year.

Q: is there a quick home way to clear up asthma like symptoms?

A: you could opt for yoga ... not the tough ones but the ones involving breathing techniques...try to google PRANAYAM.. its a branch of yoga...its really easy and very effective... you can feel the result instantly...

Q: My asthma symptoms aren't going away even with the rescue inhaler...?
I've had asthma for about 11 years now, and in the past 4 months, the symptoms have gotten nearly unbearable. It's difficult to take a deep breath in, and I often feel like I can't catch my breath. I'm on an albuteral inhaler and my doctor started me on Asmanex 3 weeks ago. I just got over a sinus infection and bronchitis about 3 weeks ago, also, but these symptoms seem to be hanging on. I'm using my rescue inhaler about 4 times a day now and before I hardly ever used it. What's going on? I don't really have a clear understanding on my asthma, my doctor basically told me you have asthma and gave me the script for the inhaler and sent me on my way. It wasn't until I ended up with pneumonia that a respiratory therapist went over possible triggers and things like that with me. I also have a history of panic attacks, could I be confusing the two, or is it possible to start having an asthma attack, then trigger a panic attack? Ugh, this is so confusing to me. I just need to know if anyone else has experienced anything like this. From going to no symptoms to this, how does that work? Please help!!!! Thanks in advance : )

A: Your respiratory system just went through a whole bunch of trauma. Sometimes it does take a good while before it does return to normal. Based on my experiences in the hospital and the ER, a lot of people do get confused between panic and asthma attacks. They are very easy to do. They do have very similar symptoms. Are you on any meds for anxiety? Since no one can properly diagnose over the internet, my advice would be to document when these attacks occur and what you were doing at time..... what you were eating at that time if you were eating.... what were you thinking about....where you were at that time. Give as much detail as possible. Has there been a major life change such as going to college, marriage, a new house, etc... that could have brought this on? If so, it could be anxiety. Are you wheezing, when you have these attacks? Asthma most times not all times has audible wheezing. If you want, change dr.s and show him your diary. This will enable him to have a better understanding of you, your asthma and your anxiety. He may give you medicine for anxiety or he may give you preventative meds for you asthma. It just depends on what he concludes from your visit. Oh just a thought. Albuterol can make your heart beat faster therefore bringing on a panic attack. So the fact that you are taking it 4 times a day may be indicative as to why they have gotten worse and are not going away.

Q: Asthma symptoms after smoking/being exposed to weed smoke.?
Alright, so I recently (I think) developed asthma. I haven't been diagnosed for asthma just yet, as I have been debating on going to the doctor yet. I'm almost 100% certain that I do have asthma, though, as these symptoms (shortness of breath, physically exhausted, etc.) after either smoking/being exposed to weed, exercising, or just at a random time. I don't have medication/inhaler for my asthma. Anyways, would these problems go away (for the most part) if my asthma is controlled under medication? It's really difficult to control this. FYI, I rarely smoke weed. It's basically bimonthly nowadays, if that. It's still disappointing that I have to suffer for something that can bring a lot of happiness. (also, these cases are usually severe, meaning as I can barely take in a breath)

A: its probably asthma, if you wheeze, its for sure asthma.

Q: Asthma symptoms in toddlers?
I was wondering if the following could be considered an asthma symptom. I am still planning on discussing this with my 2yr old son's allergist but I thought I check here as well. My son on ocassions when playing, excited or laughing (it happens more with the latter) will bring him a dry? 'cough' which he clears by self gagging (sticks his finger). I am not sure if a phlegm is what causes this cough or else. It only happens when he doing an activity that gets him excited so it is not like it happens when he's watching tv or just being idle. I guess that would rule out reflux, etc. His respiration rate is about 20 per min and sleeps soundly through the night... he does have eczema and some mild food allergies... my wife thinks that his cough is because of a 'self gagging' habit that remained from when he was younger but I have observed the pattern to be the other way around, with self gagging being his way of clearing his throat... none of the sites I've visited have my toddler's symptoms as part of asthma, and I do not believe he wheezes either...

A: Hi I don't have answers for you but I do have a 2 y o son myself that does the same thing when he runs around too much and also when he gets stressed over something I've noticed lately it triggers this "gagging" cough. I was thinking the tonsills and or just bronchities as he's had this a few times before, I've gotten so used to this cough now and that he sticks his fingers down his throat that it is becoming "the norm" but it shouldn't. I will ask our GP about this again next time we go see her and will check back here in case someone has a better advise. Best of luck
