Q: are there any new asthma treatments?
A: Hi There
Here are some remedies and testimonials (bottom) to overcome your condition.
Cause:
Asthma is caused by malnutrition. Only by diligent and consistent effort to change embedded habits will one get permanent relief. The cough is a result of nature's effort to expectorate mucus from the lungs, after which breathing becomes easier. Ofttimes the cause of asthma is basically a nervous condition because the nerves are irritated
Herbal Aids:
1. Convulsions: When a person is in a convulsion there are certain herbs that will give very fast relief. One of these is tincture of lobelia, and a valerian decoction with a little cayenne added to relieve spasms. If such an attack comes after a meal one should use an emetic, such as a large dose of lobelia or use the Yoga finger method. (see # 2 below)
2. Yoga Finger Method: Drink several cups of warm water, then place the middle finger deep down the throat and press the tongue until regurgitation starts. Mustard is also good to clean the stomach and lungs. Prior to the emetic a peppermint or spearmint tea should be used to soothe the area and alleviate the discomfort of continual vomiting. Hot fomentation of castor oil, comfrey, lobelia, mullein, etc., may be placed over the stomach, liver, spleen and lung areas. Frequent hydrotherapy baths or lengthy sweat baths are beneficial, followed by a cold shower or sponging.
3. Vapor Bath: Another helpful method is to take a vapor bath twice a week, inhaling steam from a decoction of cudweed ragwort, wormwood, or a decoction of the following herbs, taken warm, (equal parts) will prove very beneficial: elecampane root, horehounds, hyssop, skunk cabbage root, vervain, wild cherry bark (and to this preparation add tincture of lobelia or antispasmodic tincture. Clear the bowels with an injection of catnip or barberry bark. This affliction also calls for plenty of outdoor exercise, deep breathing, and good ventilation while sleeping. The whole body system should be built up with tonic herbs such as chickweed, comfrey, marshmallow, mullein, etc. Diet should be mostly fruits and vegetables, avoiding all processed devitalized foods.
4. Dr. Christopher's Herbal Respiratory Formula: (Resp-Free) It is wonderful for asthma. This combination of herbs in tablet, tea and capsule form is an aid to relieve irritation in the respiratory tract--lungs and bronchial. This is an aid in Emphysema as well as other bronchial and lung congestion such as bronchitis, asthma, tuberculosis, etc. Suggested amount for an adult is a cup two or three times a day, or 2 or 3 capsules or tablets two or three times a day with a cup of comfrey tea. For additional help in the program, it is good to add three to six drops of tincture of lobelia to each cup of tea. This formula consists of comfrey root, mullein, chickweed, marshmallow root and lobelia.
5. Dr. Christopher's Hay Fever Formula: (Sha Tea) It is good for asthma also. This combination is a natural herbal aid working as a decongestant and antihistamine to dry up sinuses and expel from the head and broncho pulmonary tubes and passages the offending stoppage and mucus. Combine this with the respiratory combination to speed up the process. The wise person will turn to fresh wholesome food and beverages to keep the body in a perfect state. This will guarantee permanent relief, by going to the cause.
6. Elder: The inner bark is used, although it should be aged before used. The fresh bark is violently irritating and poisonous to children. It is specifically used for spasmodic asthma with copious phlegm and stringy mucus. For asthma, take a tablespoonful whenever an attack threatens. Powdered Cloves can alleviate excessive vomiting when using the bark. To avoid bowel cramps, add a tablespoonful of powdered Ginger to the infusion. (ShoA:58).
7 Lobelia: Most people agree that Lobelia is a specific treatment for asthma, as well as other bronchial or spasmodic troubles. Because the herb removes obstructions, giving it when an attack comes on will often cause vomiting; matter will accumulate in the stomach which will cause obstructions. When the person vomits, it removes the intestinal blockage and often removes the mucus accumulations in the bronchial system as well.
8. Lobelia: It is one of the best plant expectorants, but as it is a stimulant to the vagus nerve it can easily produce nausea and vomiting when taken in excess. If a teaspoonful of the tincture produces nausea, cut down; it can easily be overdone, says herbalist Moore (Moore:98). The leaves and flowers have strong antispasmodic effects on the bronchials when smoked, and certain individuals with asthma can find it a reliable herb to smoke at the first signs of spasms.
9. Mullein: This herb soothes the lungs and helps bring up the phlegm. It can be combined with sage and plantain for use in asthma. Sometimes a vapor treatment of Mullein is good for asthma, which is made by simmering a strong pot of Mullein tea and inhaling the steam with a towel over your head. This is also good for bronchial troubles of various kinds.
10. Skunk Cabbage: Because of its antispasmodic properties, is well known in many cough problems. Foremost in this use is its application in asthma. It can help control the coughing and sneezing in hayfever. Many claim that it is useful in cases of tuberculosis. For people who have chronic dry coughing spells, skunk cabbage can offer relief. It will also clear up a chronic cold, with a cough which will not leave because of mucus accumulations and bronchial problems of all kinds.
11. Milk Products: One of the best ways to prevent and therefore treat Asthma is not to use milk products. Dr. N. W. Walker, in his book Raw Vegetable Juices (Norwalk Press Publishers), says about cow's milk, "Cow's milk is probably the most mucus-forming food used by human beings. The casein content of cow's milk is exceedingly high, being about 300% more than is contained in mother's milk. [Casein, by the way, is a milk byproduct and is considered to be one of the most tenacious adhesives used for gluing wood together.] This is one of the reasons for the mucus condition of children and adults brought up to drink quantities of such milk and for the resultant colds, running noses, tonsil, adenoid, and bronchial troubles--whereas carrot juice is one of the greatest aids in the elimination of mucus!
12. General Program for Clearing Up Asthma: Hayfever may end in an attack of bronchial asthma, and those two are often associated, as both are based upon a nervous predisposition and an unusual susceptibility to small amounts of albumins.
To get to the root of the matter, the system must be cleared of toxins and the nerve energy restored to normal; then the cause does not exist.
The cause starts with the customary unclean bowel, take care of this with the three day cleanse and using the Dr. C. Bowel Formula, follow the mucusless diet and use a gallon (for an adult) of steam distilled water daily. For those who do not understand what is meant when the words "mucusless diet" are used should read the booklet "Dr. C's Three Day Cleansing Program and Mucusless Diet" The following is an excerpt from same:
"The mucusless diet. We should not put mucus into the body faster than it can be taken and eliminated. With this preventative diet, not only are the sinuses, the bronchi, and the lungs cleared, but also the constipating mucus (catarrh) in the tissues of the body from the head to the bottom of the feet.
"Harmful or mucus-forming foods. Secondary, denatured, or inorganic food substances are to be eliminated from the patient's diet.
"Salt: For those who are accustomed to large amounts of salt, this may sound difficult, but if you will substitute coarsely ground pepper and savory herbs, adding powdered kelp, you will find that the craving for salt will immediately begin to disappear. The black pepper is a good nutritional herb and helps rebuild the body when used in its natural state. But, when pepper is cooked in food, the molecular structure changes, so it becomes an inorganic irritant (as high heat changes the cayenne, black pepper, and spices from organics to inorganic irritants), and this is the only time when damage results. The use of salts of a vegetable or potassium base (such as Dr. Jensen's, Dr. Bronner's, and other various ones, which in some cases contain some sea salt) is all right, providing it is not overdone.
"Eggs: No eggs should be eaten in any form."
"Sugar and all sugar products: You may use honey, sorghum molasses or blackstrap molasses, but no sugar of any type."
"Meat: Eliminate all red meats from the diet. A little white fish once a week, or a bit of young chicken that has not been fed commercial food or inoculated with formaldehyde and other anti- spoilage serums, would be all right (as these are the higher forms of edible flesh), but do not use them too often."
"Milk: Eliminate all dairy products, which include butter, cheese, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, etc. These are all mucus-forming substances and, in most cases, are extremely high in cholesterol. As a substitute for butter or margarine (hardening vegetable oils, etc.), you can train your taste buds to enjoy a good, fresh, bland olive oil on vegetables, salads, and other tools and you will discover this is one of the choicest foods there is."
"Flour and flour products: When flour is heated and baked in high temperatures, it changes to a mucus-forming substance. This is no longer a food, which means it has no life remaining therein. All wholesome food is organic, where unwholesome food or dead food is inorganic. This is the key to our whole mucusless program."
Rebuild the nervous system with the Dr. C's Nerve Herbal Food Combination, consisting of black cohosh, capsicum, hops flowers, lady's slipper, lobelia, scullcap, valerian, wood betony and mistletoe. The suggested amount for an adult's use would be one to three cups of the tea, or two or three capsules or tablets three times in a day, taken with a cup of celery juice or steam distilled water. Here is a formula we have used with great success for well over thirty years. It is used for relieving nervous tension and insomnia; it is mildly stimulating and yet lessens the irritability and excitement of the nervous system and also lessens or reduces pain. This formula contains herbs that feed and revitalize the motor nerve at the base of the skull (medulla area and upper cervicals) and also rebuilds the frayed nerve sheath, the nerve itself, and its capillaries.
To finish up the package, of getting to the cause we need to add our formula for hayfever, sinus and allergies. This is an aid for clearing up these malfunctions, a "natural and herbal help" working as a decongestant and natural antihistamine to dry up the sinus and expel from the head and broncho- pulmonary tubes and passages the offending stoppage and mucus. This formula consists of the following herbs: Brigham tea, marshmallow root, juniper berries, golden seal root, chaparral, burdock root, parsley root and lobelia.
To speed up this cleansing procedure, use the following combination in addition to the above: Blend fresh, chopped up horseradish roots, mixed with apple cider vinegar, into a thick pulp and chew thoroughly before swallowing. Take 1/3 teaspoon three times in a day. Each three days increase this amount from 1/3 teaspoon up to one teaspoon, increasing the amount 1/3 teaspoon each three days. As with all wholistic procedures follow the program faithfully six days per week--week after week until desired results are obtained.
For irritations of the respiratory tract, lungs, and bronchials, the following formula can be used: comfrey root (Symphytum officinale), mullein (Verbascum thapsus), chickweed (Stellaria media), marshmallow root (Althea officinalis), and lobelia (Lobelia inflata). Emphysema, bronchitis, asthma and tuberculosis sufferers have been helped by using this formula either as a tea (three cups a day), or in capsules (two or three capsules or tablets three times a day with a cup of comfrey tea). Three to six drops of tincture of lobelia may be added to the tea for additional aid.
13. Dangerous Drugs Prescribed for Asthma: You should know that the drugs doctors prescribe for the condition can be very dangerous. Theophylline is the standard ingredient for the most anti-asthmatic medicines, and it has a long list of possible side-effects, including nausea, stimulation of the central nervous system, irritability, sleeplessness and over excitement. We do not know what the long-term effects of the drug might be.
More dangerous still are the steroid drugs, such as Vanceril and Prednisone. If taken by children, these drugs can adversely affect growth and sexual maturation. It encourages yeast infections both locally and systemically. Adrenal insufficiency has been traced to this drug, so severe that death could result. Broken bones become more common among recipients of this kind of drug. And when you are ready to get yourself off the drug, you can suffer all kinds of side effects (withdrawal symptoms), such as inability to maintain body warmth, extreme tiredness, faintness, exhaustion, heart palpitations, and so on.
If you are an asthma sufferer, you should examine the natural way very carefully before exposing yourself to these powerful drugs. (Dr. Christopher has an excellent asthma formula). A natural source of ephedrine, which is used for congestion, is Brigham tea. This herb, combined with the peppermint/lobelia treatment and an altered lifestyle (including getting rid of problematic tension, which can sometimes bring on asthma attacks), might bring you relief safely.
Testimonials:
1. Man Who Couldn't Sleep Lying Down for 20 Years Because of Asthma--Cured: Dr. Christopher used the tincture of Lobelia to clear people of asthma, although they have had it many years. A couple of young fellows brought an old, old man into the Doctor at about two o'clock one morning in Evanston, Wyoming. The old man had had asthma for 26 years. For 20 years of the 26, he had never been able to work. He had never laid in a bed for 20 years. They had to build a special chair so he could sit up at night with his feet stretched out. He had a doctor at the home an average of once a week, either to give him some drug orally to keep him alive, to give a shot, or to administer oxygen. Since the family couldn't locate the doctor that night, they came in desperation to Dr. Christopher. Since the doctors did not want a naturopathic physician in town, most people had never heard of such a thing. The young fellows asked, "Do you treat human beings?" The Doctor said, yes, and to bring him in.
As the man sat down, the Doctor gave him a cup of elderleaf tea to drink gradually. He told him how he had asthma. He had been quite independent, but lately they had had to mortgage their home in order to go on with the doctoring. After he had had the elderberry tea for about ten minutes, the Doctor gave him a teaspoonful of the tincture of Lobelia. He waited ten minutes--being sure to be very accurate about this--and gave him a second teaspoonful of the tincture. After another ten minutes he gave him the third. In forty years of practice, the Doctor commented, he never had to use the tincture of Lobelia more than three teaspoonfuls to a patient. He explained that this was so because each time he was called it was at a crisis, at the climax of the disease, the right time for clearing the disease. They just sat around and chatted. The Doctor had buckets and pans around, and all of a sudden, the man started to heave. This was a little after two o'clock in the morning and he heaved on until five o'clock, for three full hours. At the finish it was dry heaves, but he brought up everything he had eaten for days, plus nearly a cup of phlegm and pus from his lungs and bronchi, from yellow to green. After he was done, the Doctor told his sons to take him home. "Should I bring him back tomorrow", he asked. "No", answered the Doctor, "it's a do-it-yourself-kit; it's all finished".
They took him home and started to walk him to his chair, but the man said, "No, boys, I'm sleeping in the bed tonight". "But, Dad, it'll kill you!" they pleaded. "No, I'm the boss-- take me to bed". They were afraid to stretch him out in case he should choke up and die. This was at five o'clock in the morning. He slept through until five o'clock the next morning--which is twenty-four hours--and slept on past noon--thirty hours he slept! When he woke up, for the first time in over twenty years he took a deep breath of air. He could take it without choking or coughing, and he said, "I'm healed". The boys were quite pleased about this. Twenty years later, one of them touched Dr. Christopher on the shoulder in Salt Lake City. He said, "My name's Workman; remember me?" Dr. Christopher said, "No". "We brought our pap into you in Evanston, Wyoming at two o'clock one morning." The Doctor then remembered him. He asked, "What happened to your dad?" The young man answered, "He never had an asthma attack from that day to this, and he went to work as a gardener and never missed a day's work since that time. The family thanks you very much".
2. Choking Phlegm in Pregnant Women Relieved: Dr. Nowell told the story of a woman who at forty years old was pregnant with her first baby. She was suffering terribly with asthmatic spasms, unable to lie in bed, fighting for breath; both she and her husband begged their doctor to stop the cough. They were told that nothing could be done until the child was born.
Dr. Nowell gave them a bottle of tincture of Lobelia, telling her to take a teaspoonful whenever the coughing began. The next morning, the patient told the Doctor that almost immediately after taking the first dose, the patient brought up long, thick masses of phlegm from the lungs the size of a man's fist. No further dose was taken and the patient never had a trace of any chest trouble since and lived a long and fruitful life.
Best of health to you
Cheers
Q: are there any new treatments for asthma?
A: Yes, however you must understand that asthma is an allergy. It can NOT be cured but CAN be managed. And yes you can have asthma at any age.
If you have your asthma under control you should be able to live symptom free.
here is some more information about asthma that may help.
The best non medication treatment for asthma is learning your triggers and avoiding them. Common triggers are smoke, dust, mold, mildew, plants, dust mites, pets and grass/weeds.
If you can't figure our your triggers, you may need to see an allergist and have allergy screening done. This may identify your triggers.
The National Asthma Prevention Program and the Expert Panel of Diagnosis and Management of Asthma both agree if you have to use a prescription inhaler such as albuterol more then two time per week, your asthma is NOT in control and you will need a prescription controller medication.
New medications on the market this year are Symbicort and Brovana. Symbicort is a combination steroid and long acting bronchodilator much like Advair. Symbicort is a controller medication.
Brovana is a new fast acting bronchodilator, like Xopenex, however is lasts longer according to the manufacture.
Q: Help: My wife is 4 months Pregnant with Asthma, new to the area, and new doctors ignore her Medical Record?
We have moved from Ohio to Florida. We have a complete medical record, in-hand, which the new doctors will not look at (say it is not necessary). My wife has relatively severe asthma. This is her second pregnancy, the first went well because our doctor from home figured out what is safe and would work for my wife...the new doctors are ignoring her requests, and her records showing treatments that worked for her.
She has now been in distress for two weeks and has now just gone to the hospital. I'm lost, can anyone give me some guidance as to our rights and possible action to be taken?
A: You need to consider changing doctors. Ask at your work which doctor people there like that is in your insurance plan. You can also consider calling and talking to a new doctor to see if he would work with your wife on treatment and explain that you have her medical records from her prior doctor. The fact that the current doc doesn't even want a copy of those medical records to put in her file is very scary. Change docs now before something serious happens.
Q: Advair or Albuterol? I'm new to asthma,I have tightness in the chest?
I have never taken the advair but I have it, I take qvar daily.I had read the disclosure for advair and it sounded so extreme! I was scared to take it.Usually I take albuterol when I am sick which I have a cold right now, before i went to an allergist who gave me the advair,Is advair treatment or preventative or both? Which one should i take? This is all so confusing, I need to go see the allergist again,ok thanks
A: Take the albuterol first wait about five minutes and then take the advair.
Q: Why does a nebulizing treatment work when a normal inhaler doesn't?
Now I'm not new to asthma. I have been having more trouble recently and have had several neb treatments. So eventually after a month or so of problems the doctor recommended that I get a nebulizer for home.
So now I have my nebulizer with it's medicine, an inhaler, and other random meds. What I don't get is why the neb works when the inhaler doesn't. Both of the meds are albuterol in a semi-gaseuos form so why does one work when the other won't?
A: To start with the Albuterol is a micro-fine mist that is 5 microns or smaller in size. Ths reason that the nebulizer works better in some cases is that most people either don't take their inhaler correctly. You know shake the cannister, sit up straight, exhale fully, place the spacer in you mouth with the inhaler attached and depress cannister, inhale slowly, hold breath for a full 10 seconds and then exhale normally. (repeat in 5 minutes) Or they are so very tight that it takes the repeated inhalations and doing the breaths slowly and deeply to get a good depostion of the medication. Too many people make the mistake of breathing normally or of not brathing deeply enough and then wondering why the medication just doesn't seem to work as well as they thought is should. Since your new to nebulizers I'd like you to know that you should air dry you neb every night to prevent germ from growing in it and you should check the filter on the machine every month. You should also refrain from using any body powders around it as it will get sucked into the machine and decrease the life of the machine. I place a folded towel under mine and a small piece of rubberized shelf liner under that. The towl muffles the noise and the liner keeps it from vibrating of the table. Keeping your meds in the refrigerator will prolong their shelf life as well. You can clean and disinfect you machine with a mild vinegar and water solution. I hope that this helps you, best of luck.
Q: Any new alopecia treatments out there?
I have had alopecia totalis since 1995, and haven't looked into 'treatment' in the past decade. Just curious if someone has had success with any new procedures. I have has cortisone inj, PUVA light treatments, rogaine, Kevis, prednisone. The doc thought my theodore sprinkles for my asthma reacted severely with Cipro, some reaction in bloodstream and eight weeks later bald..
A: One of my friends is currently undergoing a "scalp rejuvenation" treatment. It's completely herbal and the objective is to somehow stimulate the hair roots to grow. I'm not sure if it works, but going by the short-term results my friend is seeing, it seems worth a try.
Q: FED UP WITH Asthma & Allergies!!!?
My question is that it seems that ever since I had my daughter I have developed all these new food allergies, my asthma has been difficult to control all year and I get sick ALL THE TIME!!! I exercise i eat very healthy, i dont drink soda or smoke, i only drink water all the time and i am in very good shape, i take vitamins and everything and i dont udnerstand why! Im tired of getting sick and i this needs to stop, becasue once i get sick the asthma gets out of control and im about to start nursing schoool which means i cant miss days AT ALL. I went to the doctor many time and i dont have some unerlying disease or anything, he has already ran tests and ect....the only thing supposadly wrong is my daughter started day care 2 months ago so he says we are passing germs back and forth, and therefor my athma and allergies flare up.i took allergy shots as a kid, and i take asthma/allergy meds already. I want to know if anyone can help me understand why and what i can do about this that im not already doing. Any new treatment or something that I can do to STOP getting sick because This is really getting frustrating :( please help
A: As you know asthma and allergies go hand and hand. Meet with an asthma educator. They will be able to set up an asthma action plan and tell you about somethings to reduce triggers. Have you tried encasing mattress in pillow with impervious allergy covers. Freeze all of the stuffed animals for an hour or so, it kills the dust mites or get rid of them all together.
If your asthma is out of control, you should be seeing an asthma specilaist or pulmonologist. Ask if they are using the ER-3 national guidelines or GINA guidelines (international). If not run the other way. These are national guidelines, that all doctors should be following. Asthma specialist all do.
You should be on a controller medication such as advair or singular. If you are still having symptoms, they should incease the dose or add meds until you are symptom free. Albuterol or xopenex are rescue inhalers. They should only be used for a rescue. If you are going through more than 2 canisters a year, you need a different regime. Also make sure you are using your inhaler correctly. Most people unfortunately do not. They wind up getting the meds in the back of the throat not in the lungs. Hand washing is important. If you are going into to nursing this is the most important thing anyone can do to stop the spread of germs.
Also have you had a recent pulmonary function test. You may have COPD and not asthma. COPD does not respond to albuterol like asthma does.
Q: I have asthma and my current medicane?
I have asthma and my current medicine is not working. I have albuterol inhaler, albuterol liquid that goes in a nebulizer and advair inhaler. none of these things are working for me anymore. I take about 4-5 breathing treatment a day and I use my fast acting inhaler about 10-15 times a day. it seems that when I goto the doctor and tell them there not working they come up with a new way for me to try to take the medicine. the only thing that works is Cortisone which is a steroid. I don't know why they find it so hard to accept that the traditional asthma medicine does not work for me. I need Cortisone! does anyone know another medicine I can try as I'm about to look for international sources for the medicine.
A: Try Pulmicort respuiles and singulair
Q: air force and asthma?
I posted a question a few days ago that didn't really get any real response, so I deleted it. I propose a new question, thus:
I'm in the process of joining the Air Force ROTC. When I was 15 I thought I had asthma, which I tried to convince my doctor of also because I was ignorant. He sent me to do a series of pulmonary tests, which I passed. However, my doctor still gave me a few different asthma treatment medications to "try out" to see if they would help whatever the h*ll I was trying to say I had for whatever juvenile reasons I'd come up with. I never really took the medicine properly and eventually faded it (not filled a prescription in a year) out because I knew it wasn't really doing anything, as I had no illness to treat.
I've not had any problems out of my lungs and know I could pass another test. I can do all of the physical requirements, and have been a martial artist for around six years with little to no issues with breathing. I even smoked for a while when I was younger and never had a problem.
My question is thus: if I provided this information to my examiner and agreed to be seen by a secondary pulmonologist, would what would my chances be of either not receiving a DQ or obtaining a waiver?
Sorry for the long question, I suppose I'm long-winded. Please send any opinions or knowledge my way.
I phoned the doctor who diagnosed me today and was informed that I had been diagnosed with "mild persistent asthma" but I seriously doubt I had anything at all that wasn't just in my head.
A: I was diagnosed with "exercise-induced asthma" when I was 11 and was still accepted to the USAF Academy with that on my record. I was open and up front about it. During my junior year there, I was going through the medical test to get my pilot qualification and it disqualified me. I did the pulmonary function tests and went through the process to get the diagnosis from my childhood declared a misdiagnosis. It worked and I got my PQ.
Asthma is not a disqualifying condition for joining the military, but it is for certain jobs. Also, for AFROTC, you will not go to MEPS like some people on this have stated. That is for people enlisting. You will go to a DODMERB (Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board) examination station and will continue to get medical check-ups throughout college, culminating in a full physical your junior or senior year.
Q: help with asthma?
i'm on adviar 150/50, albutoral inhaler and clarinex-D. right now cuz my asthma is acting up so badly they are trying new meds and new treatments on me. the have tried predniosone and nebs and they dont' seem to be working. and if they do work it's only for a little while. i'm having attacks while i'm sleeping. i've also been knowen to stop breathing while sleeping. does anyone have like a miricle cure i wanna be able to go out soemewhere and not have to worry about and attack. can anyojne please help me ?have
A: what allergens are you specifically allergic to? step one is to avoid them.
what albuterol merely does is that it opens up your airway when you're having an asthma attack, but if you are constantly surrounded by these allergens, albuterol alone will not help. sounds like you need to be starting corticosteroids -- they help you tolerate the allergens that trigger the asthma attack but only a doctor will be able to prescribe that. try to learn more about corticosteroids and speak to your doctor if it would be a good way to go.
another option is to have yourself desensitized. my sister has a really bad case of asthma attacks when it comes to dust -- but dust is not something that we can avoid. she was also taking up steroids for it. it helped, but just a little -- hers was really a bad case of asthma. so we brought her to an allergy specialist. they did some tests to her to see where she is allergic most, and other allergens that she is allergic to. number 1 was dust, and pet dander was number 2. so the doctor started the therapy on her. every week she would come to his clinic, and the doctor would inject a (tolerable) allergen to her body, this would trigger her asthma of course so that's why every injection was followed by a nebulizer therapy. for 3 months, she did this -- every week, allergens are injected and as she became more immune to it, the dosage (allergen) increased as well, until she was able to tolerate it. it is very effective and so far she has not had any asthma attacks -- when it comes to dust, pet dander still triggers it. we did that about 6 years ago in our country, so i don't know if it is practiced here in this country.
Q: What all are New reserch and studies about Asthama?"?
Can we treated asthma with stem cells. ? Indications and contra indications/ In India where we get treatments?
A: I suggest you research this yourself: pubmed, linked below, is a search engine for peer-reviewed medical literature. Type in 'asthma review' or 'asthma stem cells' and look at the abstracts and articles presented.
The short answer, though, is - no. You can't treat much of anything with stem cells right now, and asthma, which is probably an autoimmune-related disease, is an unlikely candidate for stem cell treatment in the future.
Q: Kid with asthma?
My son got dianogsed with asthma a year ago and now he is six. Well he is on 4 meds every day...Sungular, Clariatan, Nasonax and Pulmicort. He went to the doctor yesterday and had to get 2 breathing treatments back to back.. They put him on Predisone, Zopanex and an antibiotic for an ear infection. Well last night I had to call the doctor and she pushed his treatment up to every 4 hours through the night. He was complaining of a severe headache and has been on all these meds before when he was in the hospital last year and never complained of a headache. The is still coughing and wheezing with all of these meds..What could the headache come from and will all these meds in his system for 24 hours and with zopanex being a rescue medication shouldn't he be at least a little better this morning.. I am calling the doctor when they open but just wanted some opnions.. I am new to this asthma thing. Again he is on. Singular, Clairatan, Nasonax, Pulmicort, Predisone, Zopanex and an antibioic.
Everybody's help is greatly appreciated. Sorry about any misspelling. I have not gone to bed yet. Once again thanks
A: If its any consolation to you my son had asthma too when he was young. He grew out of it. Good luck
Q: About a mild case of asthma?
When I was 15 a Doctor told me I had a mild case of asthma. He gave me an inhaler and sent me on my way. A few months later I went back for something not related to asthma and the Doctor asked if I smoked. I said yes and he said well I am taking you off the inhaler until you stop smoking. I never went back and never got another inhaler. I am 28 now and am just wondering if a mild case of asthma can go this long without getting worse. I do get out of breath sometimes doing small things and big things. It really depends. I have a cold now and noticed yesterday that when I would take a breath in it was tight and kinda like brathing through a straw. That lasted for about 20 minutes. I go see my new Doctor soon but I am wondering if a mild case of asthma gets worse without treatment. It's been 13 years since and never had a severe attack or anything like that. Also my Grandpa (mom's dad) died of lung cancer and my Dad has emphazema and yet still smokes. How likely is it that my asthma got worse?
A: Unreal, the doctor took you off medication because you smoke? that's a bad thing for him to do, did he want you to die to prove his point?
I was a smoker with asthma, got up every morning and made it to the kitchen before my first asthma attack, used my inhaler and sat and waited for it to get better so I could have a cigarette. I know that sounds awful, but you only notice your asthma when it is playing up.
Now, asthma can get progressively worse as your lungs age and don't work as well. You also have a family history of cancer so you may be predisposed to contracting lung cancer. Some people smoke their whole lives and never get cancer, but some don't, with a known history, you'd be silly to carry on smoking. Emphysema is one of those things that they now accept that you usually get as you get older anyway, but smoking SURE won't help it.
I would make two suggestions, number one, go to the doctor and get a new inhaler, you don't want to find out how bad your asthma is as you're turning blue waiting for the ambulance, and number two - for goodness sake give up smoking. Your lungs are struggling already, why make it any harder for them? poor old things :)
