Q: Whats The Best Tea For Asthma Symptoms And Treatment?
ok in need something to just ease my symptoms and help with the slight tightness in my chest..heres a list of tea i have in the house.. cold care pm active ingredient is menthol 5 mg,chamomile tea, twinings of london earl grey tea decaffeinated, bigelow english breakfast black tea, lipton 100 percent natural tea,and peppermint tea..thats all i have in the house can you tell me what would be best out of those if any to start drinking asap and please list others that are available in stores that might benefit me like i said im not looking to cure im looking to minimize my symptoms and treat when i do have symptoms instead of using my fact acting inhaler so much which i think is making me very shaky and nashus im going to have insurance in 4-6 weeks so then i will be able to get new meds pleaseeee help
A: I would mix the chamomile and peppermint tea and try that. Might get a little bronchiol relaxation from it. Use the cold care P.M. (check the label for contraindications) at night.
When you're shopping, try to find some Traditional Medicinals Breathe Easy Tea in the natural foods store. Also get some Quercetin (a bioflavinoid) with Bromelain (an enzyme) available in capsules. This will help with inflammation, when taken on an empty stomach 2-3 x daily. I think Solaray makes one called QBC that has vitamin C in it. NOW Foods makes a capsule called "Respirall" that has the Quercitin, plus Nettles --excellent product for asthma. It will cost you about $23 a month and you might never need an inhaler again.

A: ant tea will work because it is not the tea that help so much as it is the steam. A cup of hot water would do the same as a cup of tea. Some times a really icy cup of water following the hot drink will help open you up. Most of the time just not eating or drinking any dairy products will help also as dairy increase mucus production. My son swear mountain dew or any drink loaded with caffine helps him. Try taking a good allergy med 2 times a day and see if you can prevent the attack from coming by blocking the allergins that cause them.
Q: diagnostic criteria, common symptoms, health effects, treatment for asthma?
Someone help please
A: Peak flow is usually your easiest method of diagnosis... it will tell you the severity, and it will tell you if your asthma responds to medication (you'll do one before and one after and note the change).
If you were to go to a doctor and ask for a definitive test, they'll probably order a Pulmonary Function Test for you.
Symptoms are usually just shortness of breath and wheezing, but those are both subjective at best. Check out these Wiki Pages for more information:

Q: what is the best alternative treatment for asthma.?
Looking for something, such as homeopathy or an herbal remedy that can help with asthma symptoms.
A: This is one question I am fully qualified to answer. I have lived and experimented with everything under the sky for over 60 years. I have the severest form of asthma and moderate COPD. I can not put all of my knowledge gained in this format, but I will give you some important pointers. No room here for explanations.
1. Never ever get constipation. I mean never ever.
2. Become a vegetarian - yes, I do mean that.
3. Eat more of the vegetables which minimize bloating.
4. Eat a lot of SPINACH. Yes, that is right.
5. Eat vegetables, like squash, green beans, etc.
6. Eat lots of fruit.
7. Eat carbohydrates, but try to to minimize.
8. Drink lots and lots of room temperature water.
9. No sweet colas or sweet stuff.
10. When you feel short of breath, drink hot water. Believe it or not I have been doing it for decades. Water right out of tap. You have to decide what you want to do.
11. Deep and hard yogic breathing.
12. Yogic stretching for flexibility.
13. Some weight lifting. I do dumbles only.
14. Live a worry free clean life.
You must do these sincerely. Then, let me know how you feel.
Must tell your doctor prior to proceeding.
Q: Does my asthma need more treatment?
I had bronchitis when I was 10, and within a few months of recovery, was diagnosed with "exercise-induced asthma". e.g.- when I run or bike or do anything that makes me breathe harder, I get asthma symptoms. I'm seventeen now, and have taken an inhaler for years before planned exercise, like gym class, bike rides, etc. Problem is, I've never really brought it up with my doctor again and I never felt like the inhalers really did anything. yeah, they were better than doing nothing before our required twenty minute runs, but I had medically obese or overweight friends that could run and especially breathe better than I could. I think maybe my asthma needs more treatment or something more, because I'm tired of running/biking/whatever and being in breathing agony (not trying to be overdramatic) oftentimes. I always kind of figured that was just exercise, but a few people have told me what I've got after hafrd phyiscal activity is not normal. Don't want to go to the dotor unless really necessary, partially because I hate going to the doctors but also because I've never really complained about this to my family in the past 7 years, and when I've tried bringing it up recently they seem to think I'm overreacting. All I want is opinions if what I'm experiencing is normal or not, and if I should get more treatment for it..
A: You may need need an inhaled steroid to take daily, in addition to your regular routine.
Only you can tell whether your current regiment is working. Did your current regiment work better when you were younger? Do you get asthma when you are not exercising?
See your doctor to discuss the options, and if necessary get a referral to a pulminologist.
Q: SCIENCE PRESENTATION ON ASTHMA. Help Please? ?
Im doing a presentation on Asthma for my science project, and its due in tomorrow. It on Microsoft Powerpoint, and I'm having a speech too. A: Loves Christmas,
To answer your question about Serevent, the reason is that the drung in it is salmeterol, a long-acting beta agonist (LABA). In an FDA report released in December, an analysis of more than 100 trials found an increased risk of hospitalization and asthma-related deaths with the LABA-only therapy, but not when it is used in combination with corticosteroids. That is why Advair (which contains salmeterol and fluticasone, a steroid) is still being used and not Serevent which is being highly avoided.
As for Ameera, be cautious not to mix between human and animal studies. There were many animal studies that looked promising in a mouse-model of asthma (like anti IL-5), but were completely useless when it came to human trials.
Q: What is the safe, and best way to ease asthma symptoms?
I was diagnose with asthma about a year ago and the only effective treatment was using the inhaler Pro Air (abuterol sulfate) and the bad news is; I don't have health insurance anymore to refill the medication and don't have any doctor to write me a perscripton for another afforable inhaler. I'm currently having a difficult time breathing and worst of all; the the town I live in (Fresno) was scored: POOR, on air quality. Some suggested to work out the lungs so it can expand, some reccommeded nautral remedies like herbs, and others say to avoid the areas that trigger the symptoms. I don't know what to do anymore. I really want to start doing more however, I don't have the energy, and almost the entire central valley has bad air quality. What do I do?
A: My friend has experienced huge relief with a high quality, HEPA air purifier. Obviously this will help you indoors only, and is a one-time large investment. But she hardly even uses her inhaler anymore
Q: Questions about asthma -- symptoms to look out for and possible death? Please help!?
Hi, I have pretty severe asthma, and right now it's worse than ever because I have a sinus infection too. UGH! Anyway, I'm doing 330 mcg of Flovent twice daily, plus a Xopenex nebulizer treatment every 4 hours (like clockwork). I'm also on Allegra-D and Biaxin (plus Tylenol for fever as needed, and Benadryl because I'm sneezing like crazy and the Allegra-D isn't cutting it). The problem is that even with the asthma medication, I have a terrible asthma cough, I constantly feel short of breath, and I'm wheezing (even immediately after doing a neb treatment). It gets much worse at night when I lay down, so I've slept sitting straight up for 4 days. Regardless, the asthma is getting worse and my doctor's office isn't open on the weekends. I hate going into the hospital a lot, and in the last month alone I've been in there 3 times (twice for asthma, which they gave me steroids for, and once I was admitted for a food poisoning/viral thing)... (continued below)
Sometimes struggling to breathe gets so intense that my neck gets like sucked in to that little divot where your collar bone is. Is this reason enough to go into the hospital or should I wait it out? I'm very reluctant to go in too because I know they'll give me steroids, and I'm still having problems from other steroids I was on 2 months ago (and I went through severe withdrawals). I also want to know, where I'm taking the Benadryl (under my doctor's recommendation) for the sneezing, and it makes me drowsy, would it ever make it so that I would just die in my sleep and not wake up from an asthma attack? When I've taken it over the past few days, I make myself stay away... which is nearly impossible. I'm afraid I'll fall asleep and won't wake up! Is that even possible? Thank you very much for taking the time to read this and hopefully offer some advice!
A: It sounds like you need to get a new Dr. You should go see an allergist and have a full blown allergy test done to see what you are allergic to. Once they find that out, they can give you allergy shots to get that under control - they have you on way too many different meds that all semi treat the same thing (from the sounds of it, yours is pretty bad that is why I am recommending that) Also do you have a pulmonary specialist or are you going to your primary care physician for you Asthma? If you don't have a pulmonary Dr.....I would get one asap. As far as what you are experiencing right now.....GO TO THE HOSPITAL - it is better to be safe then sorry and you sound like you are in bad shape! If you do have specialist already, I would highly recommend getting a second opinion because it sound like you are on too many meds and you are not even managing your disease so it looks like you need a new course of treatment!
Q: Asthma symptoms, or is it something else?
5 weeks ago I had shortness of breath, chest pain and a fever. I went to one of those walk-in clinics and the doc said I had Bronchitis (I had no cough)
My doc yesterday said she heard a rubbing sound in my lungs--tested my breathing, gave me a treatment and it did not improve.
I don't cough. I have minor wheezing(mostly when I exercise). .
My doc is not sure whether it is Asthma or not. What else could it be? How should I treat it?
I am going to a Pulmonologist.
A: Wheezing is the hallmark sign of Asthma. But, fever is not. It is more then likely that you had either Bronchitis or some other infection.
Pleurisy is one of the other conditions that can cause a rubbing sound. The chest pain is really bad with this and it hurts to breathe in deep.
The Pulmonologist will do tests and take an xray of your lungs to rule out everything.
Q: What can be causing me to have asthma symptoms now?
A few days ago i woke up and my lungs were tight and i was congested and coughing up some tar and mucus, ( i smoke marijuana 3times+ everyday and have allergies) i took my albuterol inhaler, in the car ride it was hot but i got hooter and felt like i stopped breathing and my lungs felt they weren't getting air i started to panic. i calmed down and took my nebulizer treatment, spaced it out 4 times. still, my lungs are acting up and i have tightening and congestion. I'm still smoking pot and taking my inhaler and nebulizer. My breathing and asthma wasn't like this since i was little. whats up???? i also have allergies and this chronic sinus congestion. My question is, is it a combination of thing, my asthma? could my allergies be the reason? or is my body rejecting me smoking? or is it something ells?
please help thank you
A: It's a combination of everything. Unfortunately because you suffer allergies and it is at the height of allergy season, it leads to having more post nasal drip and sinus and chest congestion.
However, inhaling marijuana smoke only exacerbates the tightness in the chest and lungs, making it more difficult to fully clear the mucus from the lungs because it pushes the congestion further down into the chest wall cavity. The deeper the chest congestion, the longer it takes to get rid of.
You need to stop smoking pot for a while and go on an expectorant that has Guaifenisin in it to loosen phlegm, increase the lubrication in your lungs, to allow for a productive cough to relieve your chest congestion and tightness in your chest.
Hope you feel better soon!

Q: Am I having panic attacks in my sleep or asthma? Confused, please help?
I wake up in the morning with what feels like I am having a bad asthma attack. Shortness of breath to the point I use my inhaler. I am in a deep sleep and wake up with this often in the morning. Then after I do treatment to the asthma symptoms it feels like I did not sleep at all the entire night the rest of the day. I do recall when I wake up I do feel a bit panicky. However, my Dr. stated it sounds more like I am having panic attacks in my sleep that is provoking like symptoms of asthma since it only occurs during this time. He also said it's not too common asthma patients have asthma attacks while they sleep.
I do have lucid night mares often about my ex boyfriend in the past where I was in a really bad abusive relationship with. They are about the things he did to me. Any suggestions or thoughts here? Should I try an over the counter sleep aid see if that helps?
A: The way you describe the attack does not sound like a panic attack to me. In my own personal experience with panic attacks they usually occurred before I am in the deep sleep faze. I have very lucid dreams because of my medication and I never remember having dreams before a nocturnal panic attack. When I'm having a panic attack, I wake very suddenly. Shortness of breath is prevalent, but it really the least of my worries. It isn't just a panicky feeling, it is a terrifying experience. I'm positive that I am going to die or go crazy. Nocturnal panic attacks are worse than normal attacks for me, because I am still not fully awake and I'm completely confused and out of it, while I know what is happening during the daytime and can take control of the attack. For me, they usually last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes long, though it always seems much longer. I can't sleep for days afterword because I'm worried it will happen again. You described it as feeling a "bit panicky", but if you had had a nocturnal panic attack, it would be way more then a bit.
Experiences vary from person to person, however, but being a "bit panicky" does not constitute a panic attack. It just doesn't sound like a panic attack. I'm no doctor, though. If it continues to happen, I would go see another doctor with your problem and see what he/she recommends. If it is panic attacks, sleep aids will not help (they will help you sleep, but they cannot stop a panic attack). For your sake, I really hope it isn't panic attacks.
Q: what the best treatment for Unbalanced Dysfunctional Breathing disorder. What are the symptoms please help me?
HI I am chad mercure and i having problem with my lung for a few year get short of breath really easy and think i have asthma. I get cold that not go away some of my teacher thought it was whooping cough. The symtoms of short of breath coughing every morning and tire and short of breath when doing exersices and sleeping or relaxing. I also get heart burn and somtime i cannopt speak or complete a sentence. I get this strange feeling inn my chest like there a build up of presseure in my chest and tingly feeling all over and barly can grip things. but this happens about once a month. I get gagging feeling in the morning and get the feeling of being hot like a hot flash. What can it be my doct dose not know what it is and i need help. With my sleeping when i get up i get migraines headache and stiff ness. I get alot of migranes pounding headache and they almost feel like cluster headaches. I did a test online, it shows i might have Unbalanced Dysfunctional Breathing thanks you chad mercure
A: Hi Chad. Sorry you're not feeling well. I've never heard of UDB. Nowdays, Docs give new names to old problems. They do this is part for $.It's a marketing gimick. There just used to be "heartburn" now there's 5 different catagories. Know what I mean? What has changed in the last few years for you? Asthma (in eastern tradition) is related to our emotional being. Do you have certain thoughts when you have these attacks? Could you be allergic to something new in your abode? We tend to quit exercise when it's uncomforable but don't let that stop you. You can improve the condition of your lungs through exercise. It'll take time and you must go slow but in time, your lungs will be in better shape. Try sleeping with your upperhalf propped up. Not just on pillows though, that'll give you an even stiffer neck. There are pillow wedges you can buy or you can even use . . .I don't know . .bricks of books . .put something under your mattress so you sleep at an angle. You might be allergic to something in the house; mold, pet dander, dust, plants . .etc. Also, might you eat too quickly? Strange question - yes but that could cause the heartburn and some breathing difficulties. You could get a small air purifier, leaving it on in the day, turning it off at night. The hot flashes are symptoms of being out of breath. Take a yoga class. It will help with your breathing. Or read up on breathing exercises. Best of luck, Chad. I hope I helped. Hope everything works out for you.

Q: Is My Horse Founder? Symptoms and Treatment?
I board my horse @ a friends ranch. Just recently we started noticing something was wrong w/one of his horses. He had been given a 12yr mare from his boss b/c his boss couldn't afford her anymore. When she breathes, it sounds like she has asthma or something. It sounds like she has a hard time breathing and when she breathes in she makes this deep weezing sound. I refuse to trailride her b/c I'm convinced it's not good for her lungs, but they all say she's fine and that a vet had checked her out and found nothing wrong, but my gut instinct keeps me from riding her.
Just recently (the same time he had her hooves trimmed) she started limpong. Now she walks as if she can't bare wait on her front hooves & today she started stiffening her hind quarters as well. They thought it was justthe trim being too short, but now their saying that she's founder. What are the symptoms and can u treat it? I figured he'd have to med her up to ease the pain. He's considering putting her down?
A: The breathing and the foot problems are unrelated, but both can be serious problems. Her feet sound like they are in really bad shape. If she's foundered and in a lot of pain, it may be best to have her euthanized. It takes at least a year to fully re-grow a hoof, and when you're having problems with all of the hooves, the regrowth process is too long and painful. It does sound like founder, and her breathing problems may be associated with dust or illness. If the vet says it's nothing to worry about, then it's nothing to worry about.
I'm just worried about those hooves. Horses who founder that badly don't tend to recover well, and many who survive can never be ridden again due to damage to the coffin bone, and joint problems from standing in odd positions, trying to stand so it doesn't hurt.
