Q: Memory problems - a big concern - please help if you are an expert?
Hi. I am a 23 y.o. male who has been having noticeable change in his cognitive functions - memory, reasoning, etc. I noticed these symptoms more than a year ago. I used to feel 'blank' before then i took gingko on a regular basis and it made some change (then i stopped taking it) but I am not sure - even till today I cant process things properly and forget things a lot. It is not stress because I would know. What did happen is I changed my breathing pattern to improve my asthma symptoms - I learned Buteyko breathing exercises & it did help my asthma but strangely started noticing these memory symptoms. I cant perform well at work and study - i am very concerned and a bit scared now. Please tell me what to do - i think i might have lack of blood supply to the brain or i might have lack of oxygen going in the brain. I am not sure what I could do about it. Please help (if you have medical background/knowledge) About myself: I dont smoke & very rarely drink & dont really eat junk food as such. My blood work is normal - had it checked but had abnormally high CRP levels (around 19.4 when its meant to be <3.5) when I do a bit of running i can feel my heart pumping and get tired more quickly than another normal adult - this i have always had problems with and also my stomach - have always had acidity, indigestion, burping, etc. issues

A: Well ... take a look into some supplements when you have the time ... Here are some popular ones: http://focusfast.com/ http://www.vivimind.com/

Q: Did you know these facts about human body?
The typical human body has 70,000 miles of blood vessels. Alcohol lowers the body’s temperature, but causes dilation of the capillaries which creates the illusion of warmth. It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. One of the symptoms of asthma is improved hearing. Research has shown that beer tastes differently if the drinker hears a particular musical tone while drinking it. The tone for optimum taste is different for different beers. Air expelled during a sneeze travels at about 100 miles per hour. An average person laughs about 15 times a day. Tongue prints are as unique as fingerprints. Men without hair on their chests are more likely to have cirrhosis of the liver than are hairy-chested men. Gradual loss of chest hair and armpit hair is a symptom of cirrhosis. Women are 37% more likely to go to a psychiatrist than men are. People with blue eyes are the most sensitive to light. People with dark brown eyes are the least sensitive. Your left lung takes in less air than your right one does. Men's hearts beat slower than women's. Younger women give birth to a larger proportion of boys than do older women. Adults are more susceptible to death when bitten by a snake than a child is. The brain uses 25% of the body’s oxygen, even though it comprises only two percent of the body’s weight. The Neanderthal's brain was bigger than yours is. A typical person’s mouth produces a quart of saliva a day. I have more if people are interested!!!

A: Whoa! Whoa! Knew that. Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! (what's Cirrhosis) Makes sense. Whoa! But makes sense. Knew that. Makes perfect sense! Whoa! Didn't know that. o.o Whoa! eep! Whoa! Is that so? Shoot.. I'm dumber than the Neandrethal Man. :/ Knew that. Fun facts! One star for you! :D

Q: What do you think of a mom who keeps her child in a "bubble"?
My sister-in-law works, and her 3-year-old son has a special illness (a type of virile asthma that causes asthma-like symptoms when he catches a virus, like a cold virus) so she doesn't send him to school, have him join any classes (like gymnastics or something), and keeps him inside most of the time. She doesn't let the nanny take him out for walks b/c she's afraid not just about the illness, but b/c she doesn't like her neighbors (one of her neighbors has sons that use drugs). She keeps him in this bubble, which I think is detrimental to him. Of course, on weekends when they are free (b/c she works, so weekends are filled w/ errands, getting together w/ adult friends, or taking her older one to birthday parties, etc.) they take him out to a park or something, but overall they rarely take him anywhere b/c he bolts & runs away. She thinks it's his personality but I think it's b/c he hardly ever gets to go outside. Once he fell down a play structure at a park b/c he thought they were going to catch him if he jumped down. Shouldn't he have some kind of spatial awareness? He watches at least 10 hrs. of tv at home and is overweight. I feel sorry for him b/c I can tell he doesn't play with other kids or interact with them, doesn't know how to take turns or share (even though at this age kids do "parallel" play where they play side by side & not together) and is just not social overall. I've pointed this out (tactfully, of course) to the mom, but she said he's fine & doesn't need school right now b/c he's smart (he knows his abc's, likes to do puzzles, is bilingual -- but doesn't talk alot) but i think she's in denial. What do you think? Does she need a reality check? Yes, he takes steroids & other medication everyday for his asthma.

A: That is just ridiculous! My eldest has severe asthma, which turns a slight cold into asthma symptoms, but because we are responsible parents, she is on medication for it, so it is under control. If his medication isn't working, then he needs to have it changed, not live in a bubble! My daughter attended kindy from two and a half on, as well as daycare. She has friends, goes to the playground, and the swimming pool (even though we know the chlorine can sometimes worsen asthma symptoms). We make sure she carries an inhaler at all times, so we are prepared. You cannot use asthma as an excuse to isolate a child. It isn't treatable, but it is controllable! Your sister-in-law is going to raise a sad, lonely fat little boy, who is being set up for a lifetime of bullying unless she changes the situation.

Q: Are these illnesses or symptoms???
These are NOT Illnesses, but only symptoms that you must learn to ask yourself—“from which of the five causes does it come from???” These are the symptoms that were once known as real illnesses; that YOU can now learn to reverse or prevent, and/or improved by yourself with my self-healing methods. There are two words that will make this possible to do or impossible to do: These two words have a magic all their own –they are magical because they remind me of “Open Sesame” --- once you use these words they open a new life for you if you apply them or close the door to it, they are called: Discipline and Dedication. Q: Kids and meds?
My son is 7 and on Nasonex, Zyrtec, and Qvar 10 (daily) and Xopenex (PRN). He has the following symptoms ongoing: vomiting, nausea, headaches and nosebleeds.PLUS water swings from the Qvar. The regular dr. isn't linking the symptoms to the meds. The nurses at the Asthma/Allergy specialist are saying its not related to meds wait for Dec. appt. So my question* finally* anyone else have these same symptoms with these same drugs? Adult or kid. Thanks in advance! Sorry should have said the vomiting isn't constant I meant ongoing as in occasional for several days!

A: Nasonex could cause nose bleeds and headaches. I would recommend to put some vasolene on a Q-tip and put it inside his nares. The nose bleeds may be from the capillaries in his nares being inflammed. The vasolene will sooth the lining of his nose. He will hate you for doing it, but it helps. Also, make sure you are not pushing the Nasonex to far into his nares. Just put it at the very edge. Xopenex and Qvar shouldn't cause nausea and vomitting but each person reacts differently. I would call the doctor again and not wait until the December appointment. that is still 6 or 6 weeks away. Don't wait. He doesn't need to suffer like this.

Q: find draft, grammar check, and the fourth para is my conclusion and i wrote in alternative term. Please help
The use of herbicide in lawn care has increased in the past year. Advertising has portrayed herbicide as a magician that could provide a nice environment in a really short time, in order to fulfill our desire. This chemical spray is use to destroy needless weeds and plants, but a lot of people overuse it, and that causes many problems. These problems can typically be found around us. Pollution in our water, and other effects on human health. Therefore, we have a responsibility to prevent the use of herbicide and protect our life and the environment we live in. Herbicide contains two specific ingredients: glyphosate and 2,4D. These chemicals are commonly used in farms, parks and golf courses. Farmers and gardeners use the chemicals to kill unwanted plants, but they don’t realize that the chemicals do not stay on the plants. The herbicides are getting into our water, rivers and, subsequently, into the rain. It could kill fish, beavers, frogs and birds. I found that some researches have proven that weed killer is toxic to the environment. John Struger, a scientist at the Canadian Centre for Inland Waters, analyzed urban streams and detected nine types of herbicides. Tyrone Hayes, the developmental endocrinologist at the University of California at Berkeley, said that over-use of herbicide is directly effecting male tadpoles in the laboratory. He tested the level used in the environment, and found that this chemical removed the testicles of male tadpoles, and prevented male characteristics from fully forming. He concluded that herbicide exposure turns the tadpoles into hermaphrodites (creatures with both male and female sexual characteristics). If there are no more male frogs, frog populations will decrease, and, without the frogs to consume them, bug populations will increase. In fact, herbicides are not only harmful to our environment but are also slowly poisoning both children and adults. Children are at a high risk of infection because their immune systems are very weak. A U.S. National Cancer Institute survey found that children with leukemia and asthma are six times more likely to come from homes where herbicides were used. Children are most at risk of developing problems because they play on lawns, and herbicides can enter through their skin. And according to Dr. Kelly Martin, 20% of the people who arrive in hospital emergency rooms with toxic herbicide exposure are children who have crawled on a lawn after it had been sprayed safely. The Ontario College of Family Physicians, the Canadian Public Health Association and the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada have said that herbicides affect children’s neurological development, reproduction, growth, and the functioning of the immune and endocrine systems. Moreover, Canadians are using approximately four million kilograms of herbicides every year. Adults have stronger immune systems, but are also affected by the chemical sprays, exhibiting symptoms such as sneezing, running nose, stinging eyes, headache and diarrhea. Now scientist had investigated organic herbicide, this organic product is vinegar. Vinegar does great job in killing off weeds without hurting plants, animals and human. The acidic nature of vinegar (4 percent acetic acid) is what makes it an ideal organic herbicide. It is perfectly for farm and even home garden. All you need to do is make a one-time application of a quart of vinegar using a standard spray bottle. This is a cheap alternative way to protect both human and environment. You can find vinegar anywhere like Superstore, Safeway and Wal-mart. This information reported by Rafiq Islam a soil and water specialist with Ohio State’s South Centers. i thnk i need a better conclusion

A: u might want to check this sentence: *Pollution in our water, and other effects on human health. in this sentenec: *Tyrone Hayes, the developmental endocrinologist at the University of California at Berkeley, said that *over-use* of herbicide is directly *effecting*male tadpoles in the laboratory. , i don't think over-use needs a hyphen. and it should be affecting not effecting in this part: Now *scientist* had investigated organic herbicide, it should be either scientists or a scientist u should check this sentence: Now scientist had investigated organic herbicide, this organic product is vinegar. i think it should be a period instead of a comma. in this part: Vinegar does *great job in* killing off weeds without hurting plants, animals and human. it think u should say *a great job of sorry if i critized too much..... it really a good conclusion good luck i hope i helped

Q: Will curing G.E.R.D. have a very large impact on breathing problems?
I have been considering Nissen fundoplication surgery for my hiatal hernia, and would like to hear from people that have already had this done. I want to know, specifically, if this surgery improved any of the respitory conditions associated with GERD. Also, will this place any restrictions on my pilot certificate? Here is a crap load of background about me: At one point I had done everything the doctor told me, including eliminating food from my diet that aggravates the condition, loosing weight until I was within the "healthy" parameters for my age/height/fitness, altered my sleep angle, and was on Nexium, Previcid, and Gaviscon. All of these actions helped the condition, but did not eliminate the symptoms. In fact, the symptoms were still so bad, that I gave up on the treatments. I have been suffering from G.E.R.D. for my entire life, as I was born with a hiatus hernia. I also have hyperhydrochlorhydria, which aggravates the gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as causing Gastritis and similar symptoms in the lower GI tract. As well as the common symptoms of G.E.R.D., I have also been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis as a child, and then later diagnosed with asthma as an adult. (it is believed that G.E.R.D. can cause asthma) The spasms in my stomach as well as the acid levels have been much higher lately due to some increased stress. These increases have led to Laryngopharyngeal reflux, which seems to be causing sleep apnea like symptoms. Once I can aford health insurance, I'll happily go through the same process where the physician and specialists tell me to change my diet, lose weight, take drugs, so on and so forth. Eventually, i will have exhausted all the non-surgical options, and I'll probably opt for the surgery. RE: Sandy Acutally, yes, I do have discomfort in my ears, as well as (gag) a lot of wax! I've actually had fifteen reoccuring ear infections, as well as some vertigo and swimmer's ear. According to Wikipedia, this can be connected to the GERD and LPRD I forgot to mention that I have the "lump" sensation associated with LPRD, as well as throat pain. I decided to add these details as others had commented that they have these symptoms. Although it is not relavent to my question, I feel these added details may help shed some light on their conditions. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastroesophageal_reflux_disease for GERD info, annd look for the links for LRPD and asthma

A: Well, from personal experience I can say that, yes, it did have a great impact on my ability to breathe. Mine only flares up once in a while, but when it does, it gives me asthma. I am not allergic to anything and the feeling of not being able to breathe correctly while having the chest pain from the gerd was scary, I thought I was having a heart problem!!! Once I take the neccessary steps to get the gerd under control with my meds, better diet, and sleeping posture... then I can breathe free & easy again. I don't have the hiatal hernia, so I never needed the surgery. I wish you good luck! edit/// To "Sandy": Yeah, my gerd did that too. It caused pain in my esophagus & throat... sometimes the pain shot up into my ribs, neck, and ears too!!! The nerves in my esophagus are weird like that. Sometimes, also, the acid that would come up at night would make my throat hurt and sometimes give me a hoarse voice & sore throat, which would affect my ears too!

Q: Can Allergies cause your chest muscle to hurt?
Last year i got bad allergies for the first time as an adult, lost my voice sore throat and then hard to breath and then chest muscle pain near my heart that was the last symptom to subside. i got so many tests done and took so many meds including asthma, allergies, antibiotics, ekg. it ended up going away with allergy season. this year i am breastfeeding and i am not sure if i have a plugged milk duct or its the allergy chest pain again. i started allergy meds early so no other symptoms. the pain feels on my left side and in between my cleavage. hot showers feel great but the pain doesnt subside. HELP

A: heck yea it can hurt your chest. as a male, I've never had a plugged milk duct so I can't help you there. I've had allergies for 30 years though, and a tell tale sign I'm going to have a bad season is a sore chest, from congestion and your lungs trying to fight everything off. I recommend going to natural path healer (yes they work!) while breast feeding especially. I take an herbal rememdy for mine, works great. I also have regular MD perscription for those days that are out of control. Good luck

Q: Explain all the hype about the swine flu... and now the vaccinations (see below)?
SORRY SO LONG BUT HERE GOES: I don't understand all the hype about this swine flu, why the pandemic hysteria when it has not killed any more people than the common flu we have every season? I know it is new but it doesn't sound like something we should worry about so much (most people do get over it) any more than any other flu or disease that is contagious... any there are many that are far worse that don't get nearly the attention this is getting. This worries me - are they going to MAKE children take this vaccination??!!(copied here in part): Fall swine flu: Obama urges vigilance, not panic LAURAN NEERGAARD,AP Medical Writer Tuesday, July 14, 2009 But if all goes well, the federal government will buy vaccine from manufacturers and share it for free among the states, which must then "try and get this in the arms of the targeted population as soon as possible," Sebelius said. First in line probably will be school-age children, young adults with risky conditions such as asthma, pregnant women and health workers, she said. Article from CNN on 4/28/09 (copied in part): (CNN) -- There had been no confirmed deaths in the United States related to swine flu as of Tuesday afternoon. But another virus had killed thousands of people since January and is expected to keep killing hundreds of people every week for the rest of the year. That one? The regular flu. Also reported 6/26/09 (copied in part): The United States has roughly half the world's swine flu cases, with nearly 28,000 reported to the CDC so far. The U.S. count includes 3,065 hospitalizations and 127 deaths. The percentage of cases hospitalized has been growing, but that may be due to closer scrutiny of very sick patients. It takes about three days from the time symptoms appear to hospitalization, Finelli said, and the average hospital stay has been three days. Other health problems have been a factor in most cases: About one in three of the hospitalized cases had asthma, 16 percent diabetes, 12 percent have immune system problems and 11 percent chronic heart disease.

A: I am pregnant and there is no way in hell they are injecting me with some untested, unproven pointless vaccine. Nor are they injecting my children until I am proven otherwise. I am not one of those who is suspicious of every vaccine and new medication, but this concerns me as well.

Q: Diet and disease: How many of the diseases we experience in America are caused by the food we eat?
How much are we spending on healthcare to treat diet-caused illnesses? From the book Eat To Live by Joel Furhmen, MD: .."People are completely unaware that most illnesses are self-induced and can be reversed with aggressive nutritional methods. ...The medical-pharmaceutical business has encouraged people to believe that health problems are hereditary and that we need to swallow poisons to defeat our genes. This is almost always untrue. "...My clinical experience over the past ten years has shown me that almost all the major illnesses that plaque Americans are reversible with aggressive nutritional changes designed to undo the damage caused by years of eating a disease-causing diet. ....These conditions...can be effectively prevented or treated through superior nutrition. As their medical problems gradually melt away, patients can be slowly weaned off the medications they have been prescribed." "Dietary-Caused Illnesses with High Prevalence": --acne --appendicitis --atherosclerosis --diabetes (adult) --fibromyalgia --gout --high blood pressure --irritable bowel syndrome --macular degeneration --sexual dysfunction --allergies --asthma --constipation --diverticulosis --gallstones --headaches --hypoglemic symptoms --kidney stones --musculoskelatal pain --stroke --angina --arthritis --colonic polyps --esophagitis --gastritis --indigestion --lumbar spine syndromes --osteoperosis --uterine fibroids "Not only are common disorders such as asthma associated with increased body weight and our disease-causing diet, but in my experience these diseases are also curable with superior nutrition in the majority of cases. Asthma is an exampleof a disease considered irreversable that I watch resolve regularly. My patients routinely make complete and *predictable* recovery from these illnesses, predominantly through aggressive dietary changes. ...Diseases that are considered irreversible I see reversed on a daily basis."

A: Your info. works for me Amy. One of the major topics in our church is Health. Our Hospital is Loma Linda, Calif. We are killing our selves through our mouth. 5 food groups--Fruit, Veggies, Grains, Nuts, and beans. All washed good and all fresh. I see people totally live on this and they live to be very healthy....and old too. Do I follow this totally being an SDA. I really try. I did not grow up as a Vegetarian but my Boy and family are and they look great. I on the other hand am about 25 lbs over. It is hard to change old, bad habits but we can always keep working on it. With God nothing is impossible. Don't ever give up doing the very best you can. If you have to eat meat once a week, be sure it is dead as a door knob. Disease comes in the blood and fat. Don't eat that part. Leviticus 11 tells you the clean meats to eat if you want to follow the Bible from beginning to end and believes the Bible is for"ALL" man kind. Not just yours , mine but Ours. Pray before you go shopping and always have a meal before you go. This is the worst thing you can do is shop hungry. I go through so many Snow Balls this way. Big mistake. Remember it is so hard to learn and concentrate on God when you are sick. That is why He wants us to be healthy.Amy is right, you can reverse illnesses. I have seen that done too. Weight and bad habits is a big one for the U.S. Remember Goodies are a Goodie..not a staple. You get a goodie once a week, and that is it. If you really want to be healthier and lose abit of weight, you can do this, Your obedience to God to take care of this Temple, whom we house for the Holy Spirit, is not impossible. Think, make a list and don't let your cravings run you. No more Mickie D..those things will kill you. God help us all in this area. Love always in Christ..missleslie

Q: SEVERE ADULT FEMALE CHEST INFECTION - Should I insist on a chest x-ray?
I've been dignosed with a "rip-roaring" chest infection yesterday, I was prescribed amonicillin antibiotics and steriods because I was coughing continually and very weak. The emergency doctor said I needed to see my GP today to get a chest x-ray. My gp today said that I did not need a chest x-ray and gave me an inhaler to help my breathing. She listened to my chest and said that oxygen was getting through. I feel very weak, have had symptoms for 4 days now, am struggling to sleep, still coughing but not as severe as before steriods. SHOULD I GO TO CASUALTY AND INSIST ON AN X-RAY? I have not had asthma since I was about 10 years old and it was never this severe. I have a real tightness in my chest and feel very clammy and slightly confused. Also, my youngest daughter suffered 2 severe pneumonias under the age of 1 as she has ongoing medical problems -iS MY PRESENT CONDITION CONTAGIOUS TO HER?- she now aged 5. She staying with grandmother just in case.

A: It seems as though the physicians are seeing if the meds help after 24-48 hours since your oxygen intake is not obstructed. Your coughing irritates the bronchial tubes and they are inflamed/closed a bit to cause all the noisy/barking/deep hurting coughs due to muscle strain in the chest. It seems as though they (meds) are helping you a bit from your comment or else you are so exhausted from the ordeal. If you do not feel better by tomorrow morning or get worse before then, return to the ER and call your GP. An x-ray would probably give some insight into the extent of the infection to give a better reading if a more invasive action plan is needed. You are wise to keep a child with compromised immunity/health risks away from you for the time being....no need to spread your germs and you need REST and fluids without the added responsibilities to care for your little one. Glad mom is able to help out in this case.. REST..REST...REST....drink your fluids....keep nourishment light.

Q: Why do I have chest pains and a metallic taste in my mouth?
I wake up at times short of breath, with chest pains (especially at the center). I often have a metallic taste in teeth and mouth. I suffer from heartburn often. I have occasional sleep apnea and snore severely. I have occasional rashes as well. My heart rate fluctuates rapidly based on my condition. And, I have panic attacks sometimes when I'm sitting down. I know that's a lot, but these all happened at once. I did gain a lot of weight in the course of a year - 40 pounds My family history: My grandmother had diabetes and a stroke. So, did my uncle. Two aunts have died of cancer. My father also has had liver problems all throughout his life. Me, I have a history of asthma as a child that went away when I became an adult. I once blacked out and was diagnosed with TIA, but that was five years ago. I have semi-high cholesterol, but not dangerously high. I'm waiting for my insurance card to arrive, so it will be another month before I can see the doctor. I'm worried I might have a severe disease like cancer and it's adding to the problem. If anyone has experienced similar symptoms or know what I'm describing above, please help.

Q: Burning face syndrome?
Is there such a thing? I'm an adult male, 38 years old with no hx of BP problems, DM, asthma, cancer, allergies, etc. 'Good health'. I do take medications for anxiety and depression and moods. It seems lately when I get anxious, my face starts burning. It feels like someone is holding an iron very close to my face. My face ears and neck gets red. It feels like a 'hot flash' that some women get. I have to turn my desk fan on, open my collar and tie and drink cold liquids or go outside. I've had anxiety issues for years. Now it seems the symptoms are manifesting as this burning face problem. It seems to have started a few months ago. It's very uncomfortable and my neck in particular feels so raw and inflamed.

A: roschea, that's not how you spell it. but it makes your face red, and burn. depending how bad you have it. i have it every now in then, but not bad. there's stuff to keep it under conrtol.

Q: My Health Questions... Please help me haha?
1. What is a typical reason that a two-year-old should see a health care provider? to be assessed for cancer to receive an immunization to have a Pap smear to have blood work for cholesterol done 2. While visiting your grandmother, you notice she loses her balance easily, has slurred speech, and is confused. Why should you get professional help from her health care provider? She may be having a stroke and needs immediate care. She may be bleeding and require an immediate transfusion. She may have need for the influenza vaccination to prevent further symptoms.
