Q: Why do I have allergy symptoms the day after I mow the grass?
While I'm mowing, I just sneeze maybe twice, but the next day my nose is running constantly and it's itchy and I sneeze a lot. Why do I have these symptoms after I mow instead of during?

A: its because it takes a little while for your symptoms to emerge- allergies sometimes give a delayed effect, which can take up to any point from a few minutes or even 2 days or so to have symptoms. sneezing is good for you though, especially allergy sufferers, because it gets rid of all the irritation that causes your nose to be irritated and itchy... so, sneeze away!

Q: What are some herbs, and organic foods that can aid in the relief of outdoor allergy symptoms?
Symptoms: Stuffy nose, post nasal drip, sneezing, and itchy and irritated eyes.

A: Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) has cortisone-like activity which is anti-inflammatory, stimulates the adrenals, and relieves allergy symptoms. Can be taken as a tea or 100–300 mg in capsule form. Long term use can result in sodium retention or potassium loss. • Chinese skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis) has bronchodilator activity, is an anti-inflammatory, and prevents allergic reactions. It is taken in combination with other herbs. • Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) seeds are used in Chinese medicine for wheezing and coughing. • Echinacea (Echinacea species) may have anti- inflammatory activity and boost the immune system. • Khellin (Ammi visnaga) has bronchodilator activity. • Cramp (Viburnum opulus) bark has bronchodilator activity. • Traditional Chinese medicine treats allergic rhinitis with various species. Patent combination medicines are: Bu Zhong Yi Qi Wan (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi) and Yu Ping Feng San (Jade Windscreen) are used for preventing allergies, and Bi Yan Pian (Rhinitis Infusion) is often prescribed for syptoms affecting the nose. • The homeopathic remedies Rhus toxicodendron, Apis mellifica, and Nux vomica have decongestant activities. It is also used to help prevent allergic reactions by strengthening the immune system.

Q: If I have achy muscles, allergy symptoms and a tired weak feeling, what kind of disease do I have?
At first I thought maybe I have Mono, but its been 2 weeks and people have told me I wouldn't be able to funtion normally if it were Mono. I went to the doctor and they looked in my throat and felt my lymphnodes and decided it was just my allergies (which I already take a nasal spray and claritin for). I'm desperate here!

A: I recently was having problems with achy joints, muscles and swelling. Turns out it was an allergy to an inert ingredient that was in my anti-inflammatory. If you have allergies, you should check to see if artificial coloring or lactose or something else that could be causing the problem,is from the medication itself.

Q: what can I do to make allergy symptoms better?
I mean until it rains I have all kinds of trouble, I take meds, etc. what can I do?

A: You are experiencing the aftermath of allergic sensitivity to airborne irritants. Allergic reactions to inhalants, be they pollens, dust, molds, etc., cause the mucous membranes to secrete lymph in an attempt to wash away the irritants. When the irritation persists, the constantly produced mucous begins to dry and thicken, providing a warm, moist, dark place for airborne bacteria to land and colonize into what become pussy infections. Doctors are good at prescribing medicines that can help to control various stages of the irritation and after effects. But unless you isolate the triggering causes and reduce your exposure to them, it will keep repeating. So start thinking back and keep a diary describing your surroundings until you can figure out what the initial triggers might be. It is complicated, because what can in one case be a trigger, when there has been prior exposure to some other irritant, can not appear to be a trigger when taken by itself. That is to say, sometimes allergic irritants have a way of masking reactions to other irritants. This is most typical of food allergies, which can cause hives on the skin, which is a very strong allergic response, or in milder reactions can cause nasal and sinus irritation, or repeating sneezing. A well-balanced nutritional program including minerals, trace elements, vitamins, anti-oxidants, and multiple kinds of fiber and protein, is the foundation for building a health recovery program. Your first defense against allergic irritations are robust and healthy nose, throat, and sinus membranes. I used to suffer from asthma and frequent post-allergic infections until I tried taking some nutritional supplements that helped me overcome it. Now I enjoy clear sinuses year-round. I have found a family of nutritional products that I know gives me the best chance for longevity and health. Email me if you would like particulars. Living a long and healthy life.

Q: Stuffy nose without any other allergy symptoms?
I have had sinus congestion for over 5 years. There is no mucus that comes out of my nose, its pretty dry actually. The only mucus problem I have is post nasal drip. My eyes don't itch and my nose doesn't run. The only thing that I know of that triggers my sinus congestion and worsens it within minutes is the consumption of alcohol. Clariton D helps a little but none of the other typical anti-histamines do squat. Whats wrong with me?

A: You probably have a sinus infection. If so, you can go to the doctor or just let it heal at home. Zyrtec is a great allergy medication. You could also use a nasal spray. That really helps. Feel Better :)

Q: I have been home all day and sitting in the living room w/ allergy symptoms, can I be allergic to the 4 foot?
plant in the corner of my living room? Or is it the rainy weather we have been having?

A: Rain tends to clean the air. In my experience allergies are relieved when it rains. That indoor plant sounds like a more viable suspect than some rain.

Q: Can any of the ingredients in herbal teas cause side effects such as allergy symptoms?

A: Of course. Herbal teas are made from various dried plants and herbs...people can be allergic to almost anything. Just because something is herbal or "natural", doesn't mean it is safe.

Q: can allergy symptoms be induced psychologically?
my sister has allergies to a lot of things, however, can she induce her own symptoms just by thinking about them? in other words even though she really is allergic, can she bring her own real symptoms on. example:..i tell her their is a cat in the room, (there is not really)..so her eyes itch. could that happen?

A: There's a lot the mind can do to cause physical problems. People react to fear - that's in the mind, people get anxious when hearing a terrible story, people cry when told of a death - that's all in the mind and the body responds. Get in a group of people and start talking about ants and spiders, and then watch people start to scratch themselves. Yes, there's a lot that can be done that can affect you physically. But on this point specifically, I was once invited to someone's house for a small get together and card-playing. After about an hour, I started getting hot and developed a severe rash. It was only after everyone noticed my getting sick that they told me they had a Siamese cat, which I am severely allergic to. So, you can have allergic reactions without having any mental prompting. And sometimes people can be prompted to reactions that they are familiar with from past experiences, but I am less certain that if they were not allergic that there would be any reaction. I doubt that you can bring on symptoms if you have no allergy. One has to have the physical linking to symptoms, it is like conditioning. So, yes it is possible, but not to everybody, and not in all cases.

Q: how do you cure allergy symptoms?
it pains me to watch my parents suffer, allergies dont hurt me that much, although a ton of pollen might. Especially the eyes, what do you do about red eyes due to allergies?

A: You cannot cure allergy symptoms however you can strengthen the immune system so you don't get allergies. How about building the immune system so they build up a resistance so they don't get allergy symptoms at all. I did this 13 years ago using Shaklee products and in 6 weeks i had no more allergies or asthma. The nutritional program is natural and effective. Plus I switched from toxic cleaning products to using Non Toxic household cleaners and that really made a difference along with Air Purification with the AirSource 3000. Q: Are These Symptoms More Of Flu Or Allergy Symptoms?
Ever since yesterday , I have had a congested and runny nose , I keep on sneezing , my eyes keep watering up and are red ... are these more of allergy or flu symptoms and what are some natural ways to help myself get better ?

A: Signs of the flu include high fever and body aches. This sounds like a cold or allergy. I suggest you try the Neti-pot to wash out your sinuses and cut down on the allergies. "A simple yet very powerful technique, neti works wonders for chronic sinusitis, and allergies. It has a remarkable effect on upper respiratory tract infections, especially hay fever. In fact, neti is so beneficial that responses usually change from "YUK, there is no way I am ever going to try that" to "WOW. That is fantastic. I am hooked for life" after just one trial."

Q: What are the symptoms of allergy to champagne?

A: They are the same for any allergic reaction. Range from nasal congestion to full aniphlactic shock, depends on your bodies tolerance for the ingredient it is allergic too. Being that it is a liquid, I would expect you to experience a burning in the mouth and throat to difficulty breathing, and asthma like symptoms. If you think you are allergic,I would avoid drinking it.

Q: Does Vitamin C intake reduce/increase allergy symptoms?
Allergies are caused by your immune system attacking an unknown substance that appears harmful, such as pollen. My immune system sees pollen to be deadly and harmful even though it isn't. But I love orange juice. Which has a lot of vitamin C, which helps one's immune system. On days that I have severe allergy reactions to pollen, should I drink orange juice? What else should I drink? Milk?

A: Taking too much vitamin C can caused several things. I assume you have been tested for various allergies? If you like the Orange Juice and it helps, go for a brand that is light. If there is a Whole Foods Market or Health Food Market near you, go in and they have an assortment of things that are herbal that you can take for common allergies, plus foods as well.
