Q: Latex allergy?
Hello, I think I may have a very slight allergy to latex (condoms). The next morning I tend to have a pain in my lower abdomen. It could be anything but Im wondering if anyone else has a latex allergy and if you can tell me what kind of symptoms you have....Thanks.

A: the skin touches the latex gets red, itchy if the allergy is bad enough, it affects your blood pressure everywhere. the pain in the abdomen the next day doesn't sound like an allergy, but like sore muscles.

Q: Are these symptoms of a latex allergy in my vagina?
I just went to the OBGYN to get checked out for some other problem (Too long of a story, so I won't mention it) and one of the tests she did involved her sticking her finger in there, and of course, she was wearing latex gloves. The day after the appointment, I started having some discharge (With a metallic smell, ew), and I also have a rash around my vagina, and sometimes it "itches" (It doesn't exactly itch, it sorta feels tingly, and rubbing down there, NOT SCRATCHING, seems to make it stop for a while) I also hurt like right above my clit. I can't really tell what's wrong with it since I'm afraid of hurting myself, but if I touch it with something, it hurts as if I were poking at a papercut or something. (Sorry, only example I can think of at the moment since I have a papercut, lol.) It seems kind of suspicious that it started after my appointment, so I thought I'd ask. I didn't masturbate after the appointment or anything, and I've never had sex. So...Yes? No? I have not yet called my OBGYN about it because I've been busy and I just don't like her attitude. :\

A: Yes it sound very much like it could be or you could have thrush see your DR.for diagnoses & treatment a.s.a.p.

Q: symptoms latex allergies for women using condoms and also have herpes?
complications of herpes after sex with latex condom? My main question is what are the symptoms of latex allergies in latex from a condom. Can having herpes make a women more prone to a vaginal latex allergies. I have the classic yeast infection symptoms. Itching red tenderness yellowish discharge. I will of course get some yeast infection cream from a drug store. Then see a dr if necessary but for future reference I'm wondering if the latex in the condom could cause a yeast infection or complication for herpes. This is personal and sensitive responses only with intelligent advice would be greatly appreciated. Category

A: yeah you may be sensitive to latex. sometimes latex sensitivities cause tenderness, itching, and actual yeast infections. latex may be an irritant to the vaginal tissue and it can sometimes even irritate to the point of causing a herpes outbreak. i would switch to polyurethane condoms for a while and then maybe switch back to latex (sometimes you can sort of desensitize yourself) if you like. polyurethane actually offers more protection in terms of preventing the spread of herpes, but the drawback is that it is not as elastic and some people find that annoying. just get a 7-day yeast infection treatment (long, but much better than 1 or 3 day treatment) and look into getting prescription herpes medication if you havent already (works great for most people). and when everything is cleared up, use the polyurethane condoms and you will be much more comfortable im sure.

Q: How do you tell if you have a latex allergy?
What symptoms do you get and how severe do they have to be for you to actually be considered to be allergic to latex? I was wearing these latex medical gloves the other day and my hands were all red and itchy afterwards even though I washed them like 4 times and put lotion on. My hands are usually really dry though so that might have done something.

A: My infant daughter has a latex allergy, and we could tell because she would cough violently, retch, and then vomit when using latex bottle nipples. I was also told that I have a latex allergy by a nurse who was asking me questions before I had knee surgery a few years ago. She didn't ask if I was allergic to latex - if she had, I would have said no - but she asked if I'd ever had bleeding or itchy hands after wearing latex gloves. I said yes, and she said it sounds like a latex allergy. (It happened repeatedly, even in warm weather when my hands hadn't been dry beforehand.) I actually didn't quite believe it was a real allergy at the time, but since then it's become obvious that I really am allergic to it. Certain bathing suits have always given me a rash, Spandex-type shorts gave me hives on my legs all throughout sports season in high school (I've heard that real Spandex doesn't contain latex, but similar types of materials often do), I get a bad rash whenever I use latex band-aids, etc. If you suspect that you're allergic to latex, I'd definitely recommend seeing an allergist for testing. Some people only have mild reactions, but you wouldn't want to risk having a doctor use latex gloves in an emergency situation, in case you had a more severe reaction. People with allergies to bananas, kiwi, avacado, and chestnuts are also more likely to be allergic to latex. I know that many people start to suspect that they're allergic to latex after having a bad reaction to condoms, too.

A: Latex exposure is associated with 3 clinical syndromes. The first syndrome is irritant dermatitis. It is a result of mechanical disruption of the skin due to the rubbing of gloves and accounts for the majority of latex-induced local skin rashes. It is not immune mediated, is not associated with allergic complications, and is not the subject of this article. It may be confused with Type IV hypersensitivity. Any chronic hand dermatitis in HCWs raises the risk of nosocomial infections, including blood-borne pathogens. The second syndrome is a delayed (type IV) hypersensitivity reaction, resulting in a typical contact dermatitis. Symptoms usually develop within 24-48 hours of cutaneous or mucous membrane exposure to latex in a sensitized person. The primary allergens are residual accelerators and antioxidants left from the original manufacturing process. Langerhans cells process the antigens and present them to cutaneous T cells. Multiple objects can cause sensitization, but the most common sources in this country are probably examination gloves for adults and shoe soles for children. Type IV hypersensitivity is more common in atopic individuals. The dermatitis may predispose patients to further sensitizations or infections. The third, most serious, and least common syndrome is immediate (type I) hypersensitivity. It is mediated by an immunoglobulin E (IgE) response specific for latex proteins. As noted, latex proteins are highly allergenic, and they are variable between lots from different plantations, factories, and manufacturers. Cross-linking of IgE molecules on mast cell and basophil cell membranes by latex protein allergens triggers the release of histamine and other mediators of the systemic allergic cascade in sensitized individuals. Powdered latex examination gloves have been the most frequent source of sensitization in adults, causing cutaneous and inhalational exposures. (Fortunately, their use is decreasing as many hospitals move toward powder-free, "low-allergen," or nonlatex glove products.) Rash Erythema, edema, papules, and vesicles in areas of direct contact (type IV) Erythema, thickening, and pigment changes with chronic exposure (type IV) Urticaria, localized or generalized (type I)

Q: what are the symptoms of latex paint allergies?

A: They would be the same as the symptoms for a latex allergy which would be as follows: skin rash or itching (usually on the hands); hives; swollen, red skin; swollen lips and tongue, with difficulty breathing; shortness of breath, wheezing; dizziness; fainting; stomach pain; diarrhea; shock (rare, except in people who have chronic allergic reactions to latex products).

Q: Am I allergic to latex?
Whenever me and my Fiance' use condoms, they burn my insides really bad. It hurts! But I don't get welts or swell up or anything. I'm trying to Google Latex allergy symptoms but from what the symptoms tell me, I'm not allergic. When I wear a band-aid for a couple days, the area under the band-aid gets really red and itchy. But I can wear latex gloves just fine. WHAT IS WRONG?! (Oh and yes, we DO use lube, the lube doesn't bother me)

A: try goat skin condoms

Q: What are the symptoms of a LATEX REACTION DOWN THERE ...?
Is itchieness, puffy/swollen, sore symptoms? it's been like this over 24 hours now.. we are each others first and only. NO WAY is it an sti/std. We used different condom to usual - a "monster energy" drink condom. I have no previous allergies to latex or anything.. I do get rashes on my legs and hands sometimes though. What can i do in the mean time til it goes away?? PLEASE HELP! :(

A: It might be a reaction to the lube/flavouring of the different condom - there might have been a different chemical in there which your vagina doesnt like. If you have had sex before and never had a reaction to condoms then I doubt it is a latex reaction, but it might be something to do with the type. Head to a chemist and see if you can find any creams there that sound like they will help. And keep wearing clean, dry underwear and wash the area thoroughly. If it starts to smell or you get burning pains then it may have turned into an infection and you should go and get checked out at the doctor. Otherwise, you should be fine. And dont use those condoms again!

Q: Does anyone have a child with a severe allergy but negative blood and skin tests?
My 7-month-old daughter has repeatedly had allergy symptoms immediately after putting latex bottle nipples and toys in her mouth. The symptoms were very vigorous coughing, often retching and vomiting, tons of thick drool out her mouth and nose, stuffy nose, and watery eyes. Her breathing also got a little raspy for a few minutes, though fortunately it improved rapidly. We have seen an allergist, who did a skin prick test and blood tests for a latex allergy. Both came back negative. The allergist said that false negatives aren't unusual for children under 2, and that her symptoms are consistent enough that we should assume for now that she is allergic to latex, and re-test in a year. What I'm wondering is whether anyone has a young child who did turn out to have a severe allergy despite both negative blood and skin prick tests. Does the fact that her tests were negative make it less likely that she has a severe, life-threatening allergy, even if they are false negatives and she does test positive for a mild/moderate latex allergy when she's older? We have switched to silicone nipples and replaced all of her toys that contained latex, and we are very aware of latex-containing products at home. The silicone nipples completely solved the problem, which is why we're pretty sure it's a latex allergy even though the tests were negative. Her daycare has also been great about avoiding latex. We're mostly just concerned that she'll accidentally be exposed to a latex toy before anyone realizes it. Thanks for your responses.

A: Just keep her away from latex. You never know if it might turn into something serious, since she's too young for a definite diagnosis. Test her again in a few months. Good luck!!

Q: Latex allergy getting severe fast.Doc not taking me seriously.Second opion or just suck it up?
I am a Personal Care Attendant and we are always are using latex gloves as they are much cheaper than the latex free.Which I now wear. So after many years of getting slight symptoms like Burning around the area touched by ANY latex, including condoms and balloons. Redness. Burning. Pain. And itchiness. My allergy has now suddenly got very much worse. Just recently at work I was restocking the gloves,NOT wearing them, but they came in contact with my skin. After a few minutes my hand and all the way up my arm was on fire!Red welts, swelling, blisters.Pain and burning. And itchy like crazy! Does any one know what I mean? We had no choice but to take me to the ER where I was given a strong dose of an antihistamine Phernagon which worked well. I have suffered a severe anaphalatic attack from a med before, so I saw my Dr about this ASAP only to be told to "change jobs."Or avoid latex at all costs.Told me it was NOT anaphalatis. CONT:::::::: I don't trust his judgement on this diagnosis. My gut say's otherwise. I don't want another anaphaltic attack because he was wrong. Yes and I know about spelling mistakes in here. Thank you.

A: Unfortunately the body can suddenly become alergic to things that it has tolerated in the past. Do not let the Dr fob you off ask for a second opinion and for a referal to your local allergy clinic, Drs do not like spending money on these things so don't let them put you off. I suddenly became allergic 8 years ago it seemed to everything food, tight clothes, I would swell up with huge welts that could grow so big I could not get my clothes on, the itching and burning was unbearable and still is sometimes, I found good old Germoline is wonderful for instant relief, I ended up on steriods and strong antihistamine tabs, unfortunately the normal dose of antihistamine was not enough and I had to take double the amount but that was the only way to get relief. You say latex free gloves are expensive but you may be able to get them on prescription. Have you tried wearing thin cotton cloves under the latex this way they would not be touching the skin. You must stress that this is not only painfull but it is affecting you livelyhood as well. You must get allergy tested at your allergy clinic as sometimes they can help you avoid other triggers. People poo poo this when it happens to you but when it happens to them they understand how you are suffering, you have my sympathy. if they put you on steriods please be aware of the fact that the body becomes dependant on them and that when taken for long periods you have to slowly wean yourself back off, saying this they did help me tremendously. If you have a camera it helps if you get photographic evidence my Dr kept fobbing me off as everytime I managed to get in to see him the condition had eased, but when I took pictures to him at its worst that was when he took me seriously. I can only wish you good luck and hope this problem gets the full attention it deserves. If you need to sound off to someone and need a friendly ear just drop me a line on my e-mail.

Q: Has anyone ever had a vaginal latex allergy??
If so, what kinds of symptoms did you have? I have looked all over the net and cant find specifics on what kind of rash it causes...please help!

A: I haven't but my friend does. She gets them all the time. I really feel sorry for her, she has to be careful with condoms, and the latex in them. She can't use lubricant's either. Basically it is a rash like a yeast infection. I don't know if it has anything to do with yeast deposits, but that's how she described it to me, plus the discharge is usually thicker, and sometimes might have an odor. She found all this out from her Gynacologist, check in with yours I'm sure they will be able to help. Good Luck

Q: Yeast infection, uti, latex allergy, what is this?
I am 16 and in love with my boyfriend so don't say anything negative please, I just need answers. We've had sex for a month and i've had no problems. But the other day we did it for about 40 minutes (we only did it before about 10 or 15) and it was pretty rough. After that my area was really sore. The day after...I was burning and itching. And my area was all red and chapped looking. I figured it was from the condom. But im not on my period and when I went to the bathroom a.. boogery brown glob came out when i peed. And when I pee it burns when Im done, and my pee is veryyy yellow and stronggg smelling. Its usually not like that. My moms gonna take me to the doctor but she doesn't know ive had sex. Can the doctor tell by talking about it, its from condoms? .. If i dont' tell her i've had sex. I've looked up yeast infection, uti, and latex allergies. But none of those have all my symptoms.

A: If you feel woman enough to be having sex then you be woman enough to talk about it with your mom. I don't know how your mom is but you need to be responsible for your actions and accept the consequences. She may be mad at you but she may also be the only one to give you the best advice and support. What's done is done. As for the doctor he or she will know what you have by you answering truthfully his/her questions and certain test. Always be honest and don't leave any detail out, you will do yourself a favor. Make sure your boyfriend's health is good too. Anyway you could be having a yeast infection or maybe allergic to the condom. Either way a doctor's consult is better just to be sure. At least you're using a condom and I respect you for being responsible in that regard as you sure don't need a pregnancy or STD.

Q: Do I have a latex allergy or STD?
Ok, so I have had sex with one guy. Who lost his virginity to his ex, who was also a virgin at the time. No STDs there. They've been checked. But after we'd been having sex for about 5 months, it started hurting and I developed symptoms of an UTI. Urine tests were negative. I got told it could be chlamidya, but that didn't make sense. I had a rash there. Now, I haven't had sex for a month out of fear it will hurt, but I learnt last weekend that MOST people do not get a sore, tight throat when eating chewing gum. So I looked up chewing gum ingredients, and found out they have latex in them. So, a latex allergy seems logical. What do you think?

A: It may be an infection. I would say go to your gyno/Dr and explain to them the symptoms. I'm allergic to latex and I do not suffer from that problem. But there are different levels of latex allergy. Even though your boyfriend told you whatever, I would still say get checked. It's your health and you'd rather be safe than sorry. lf you decide not to get it checked out by your Dr (which I would not advise) then try having sex with polyurethane or lambs skin condoms. If you still have the symptoms then definitely go to the Dr. Good luck.

Q: Latex allergy from condoms?
I think I'm allergic to latex. It's been about 10 days since I had sex (with a condom of course), but I'm still itching really bad. I started getting symptoms right after I had sex. I thought maybe I got a yeast infection from the condom, since I have before, and I bought over the counter yeast meds without any luck. It's been about 7 days since I took the yeast medication. How do I get rid of the itching? How long will it last?

A: to get rid of the itch.. go to a pharmacy and speak to the chemist.. Then make an appointment for the family planning clinic/sexual health clinic to make sure it is an allergy... They can advise thereafter about latex free condoms
