Q: Is it possible to show external symptoms with a food allergy?
The research I've done only mentions irritation of the throat and mouth, wheezing, etc. But is it possible to develop hives and itching on your back, arms, legs, but not have any irritation in your throat, mouth, etc, when you're affected by a food allergy, such as soy? Also, is it possibly a food allergy if the hives take a long time to go away, maybe a day or two?

A: I ate sushi one night, before I got to the truck, I had a hot, red, rash on my arms. It took 2 days for them to go away. In the meantime, I took benadryl faithfully...

Q: What are symptoms of food allergy in babies? Could my 5 month old be allergic to green beans?

A: I work in an allergy and immunology medical lab and test for ALL kinds of food allergies (from blood samples). Green beans, peanuts and different nuts, beef, chicken, breakdown of milk and eggs, you name it. It is better to hold off on trying wide varieties of foods. The earlier you try, the more likely to have allergies..talk to your doc

Q: Do these symptoms relate to a food allergy?
Symptoms include... hyperactivity/food cravings, flushing of face/ hot extremities, extreme exhaustion, reflux of food/vomiting, mucus in stools, constipation, depression... most of which seem to come on soon after eating any dairy product. I wondered if wheat may also be a problem, but have not been eating that for a few days and still get the same trouble. Any advice greatly appreciated.

A: I have never heard of hyperactivity, food cravings, constipation exhaustion, or depression as symptoms of a true food allergy. This sounds more like an intolerance, and there is a HUGE difference. If you think you might have a true allergy, you need to see a board certified allergist, because food allergies can be dangerous. "Symptoms (of a food allergy) may include one or more of the following: a tingling sensation in the mouth, swelling of the tongue and the throat, difficulty breathing, hives, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, drop in blood pressure, loss of consciousness, and even death. Symptoms typically appear within minutes to two hours after the person has eaten the food to which he or she is allergic."

Q: what are the symptoms for Food Allergy and how allergy testing will help if anyone suspect a food allergy?

A: I think it's thru series of medical tests aside from waiting for allergic reactions from eating various food (which is quite risky)..

Q: What are some symptoms of a food allergy?

A: Redness, itching, and/or rash on skin. In severe cases, it can cause airways to shut down leading to shortness of breath or even death. Some people are not "tolerant" of certain foods (dairy, gluten), but they are not true allergies. In the case of intolerance, symptoms are diarrhea, constipation, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting. These symptoms can also be very severe.

Q: What are the symptoms of allergy to food that has sulfure like cabbage and cawliflower?are they a life threat?

A: The preservative sulfur can cause allergy-like reactions (intolerances), asthma symptoms such as wheezing in those with underlying asthma, hay fever-like reactions, urticaria (hives) and very rarely, anaphylaxis (allergic shock). Sulfonamide antibiotics (such as Bactrim, Resprim, Septrin, Sulfadiazine, Sulfasalazine, Sulfacetamide) can also cause allergic reactions, ranging from mild to severe rashes through to anaphylaxis (allergic shock). It would however depend on the person's individual response to it. Bear in mind though that allergic reactions to sulfonamide (sometimes called "sulfur") antibiotics do not increase the likelihood that a person will also be allergic to sulfur powder, sulfite preservatives, or non-antibiotic sulfonamide medicines like some pain killers or diuretics ("water tablets").

Q: What are the common symptoms food allergy?

A: throwing up, hives, sneezing and itching, swelling closed in the throat area.

Q: Food Allergy?
I just went out to eat w/ my Grandmother, and as soon as I finished my meal, my nose became stuffy, my eyes began to water and itch, and I started sneezing like crazy. Now, 1 hour after I have eaten, my nose is running nonstop and I am still battling this allergic reaction. My seasonal allergies have the same symptoms, but I am concerned because of the intensity and speed that these symptoms came at me with. Could this be a food allergy?

A: A big yes. Also, you could be having a reaction of most anything in the area for up to 1 hour before the symptoms started.

Q: Am I having a food allergy reaction? (symptoms in details)?
About 2 hours after eating at a buffet, I am having a hard time breathing and my chest feels tight. My fingers, and skin all over is itching, burning, and stinging. What could I have eaten that did this to me? It was Chinese.

A: you have so many gut problems, dont know them all, i was thinking , [msg] just because you are doing chinies.drink lemon juce, littel for one 16 oz glass, or go the other rout, and drink [prune juse] lemon will help you dump the food, and make it alcaline. prune juse will coat your stomic, and cause mucus to forme, and will coat the ofending , gupe.

Q: what are the symptoms of food allergy?

A: There are several symptoms, depending on the severity of the reaction. Some can be similar to sinus allergies, itching, mucus production, cough. Hives or an itchy rash are more likely, as is asthma and possibly facial swelling. In severe allergies, anaphylaxis can occur. This is an intense and dangerous reaction, with rapid swelling of the throat, respiratory tract and face, and inability to breathe. Rapid treatment with antihistamines and epinephrine is vital. Food allergies are often linked to behavioral patterns similar to ADD, and identification of these will aid in alleviation. There is evidence that people often crave foods they are allergic to, strange as that sounds. Other reactions are often sensitivities, not allergies. Vomiting, diarrhea, gas, and indigestion are all typical. For whatever reason, the body is unable to effectively digest and cope with these foods. It may be enzyme related, but there are many causes. Hope this helps!

Q: AHHHHHHHH!!!! Can these be the symptoms of a food allergy!??!??!?
I have *severe* allergies to everything: environmental, food, and medication. To environmental, my symptoms are: itchy eyes, itchy nose, rashes, eczema, the usual. To medications: hives, trouble breathing, chest pain. To foods (I have not been tested for these, only going off my symptoms and the doctor agrees): more of an Oral Allergy Syndrome with hives around my mouth, swollen tongue, purple lips, etc. HOWEVER, last night I ate a type of squash for the first time, and today I feel horrible. Last night, my mother got that "allergic feeling" when I was eating it, but I just ignored it. Today, my itchy tongue and throat have turned into a sore tongue (with little welts on it) and sore throat. Also, my whole body is itchy, my nose is dripping, my nose is itchy, I have a headache, and I just feel horrible and lethargic. Are these the symptoms of a food allergy? I get frequent sinus infections, but they never start like this and I have no sinus pressure. Thanks so much!!!! I'll pick a best answer TODAY!!!!!!!!!!

A: It is definetely a food allergy, avoid it like the plague! It's scarey because one day I ate Mushrooms and Stringbeans together, and I thought..."I can't be allergic to THOSE???, go and find out, it was two of my worst allergies, next to wheat and peanuts. Go to an allergist and have them test you for that specific food. They have a food list from A to Z. It's a shame you can't get tested for all the foods, and just avoid them, instead of finding out later.

Q: Do these symptoms indicate a feline food allergy?
My cat has had this runny ooze coming out of her eyes as well as being congested for the past 6 months. She also sneezes a lot. We brought her to a vet, you can what happened here http://paste2.org/p/644984 on this site which lets you post text. As you read the vet says its either allergies or some form of cancer. But since she is so young, we are kinda in the middle. We have asked another vet and she said its unlikely for cancer. So do my cats symptoms allanogous with a environmental or feed allergy? We were thinking of trying a hypo allergenic food, do you folks think this is a good idea. Thanks all

A: Let me preface this by saying this -- please be very careful with what you read and what advice you take. If something seems wrong with what you are reading or hearing, then it is worth discussing the topic with a knowledgeable professional (your veterinarian), or even seek a second opinion. Contrary to popular belief, it is actually less common for allergies to present as nasal/eye discharge or sneezing in animals as it is in humans -- a vast majority of allergies present as either gastrointestinal disturbances (especially cases of food allergies) or skin irritation and itchiness. A cat with sneezing and nasal congestion can be an indication of several disease processes. Some more severe than others, none of them are particularly easy fixes. Based on the age of your pet, clinical signs that you describe, and duration of illness, my top differentials would include a chronic fungal infection (cryptococcus, most likely), dental-related infection (tooth root abscess), or a nasal tumor. Other possibilities could include chronic rhinitis due to viral infection (e.g. herpes virus -- less likely due to duration of symptoms, these tend to wax and wane with stress rather than remain constant), chronic secondary bacterial infection, nasal foreign body (uncommon in cats), and the less common environmental allergy presentation. Since signs continue to not improve, it would be advisable to pursue further diagnostic testing to determine the root cause of this. If needed, an internal medicine specialist's opinion may be sought for further diagnostics and treatment. Start taking note of the characteristics of the clinical signs -- any discharge from your pet's nose (blood-tinged, true blood, mucous, watery or thick, etc.), progression of the signs over time, response (or lack of) to antibiotics, and duration of clinical signs. These answers will be important in determining the most likely cause out of the list I provided. ***Note that the above answer is informational and opinionated only. It would not be possible to give sound medical advice pertinent to your pet without seeing him.*** Sidenote in regards to the changes seen on your pets bloodwork: Yes, any virus can be a cause of leukopenia in animals, though this is seen more often with certain kinds of viruses (e.g. feline panleukopenia virus, parvovirus) over others. Secondly, a LOW creatinine is not typically a source of concern; HIGH creatinine, on the other hand, can be associated with renal (kidney) failure.

Q: Mild allergy symptoms!?
what are some mild food allergy symptoms. When I eat cherry my lips puff up and go tingly numb kinda painful pins and needles. can it be allergies? obviously not serious :P so im-a continue eating em

A: You may be allergic. I believe you are i would go to a doctor and take a testspecifically for them, if you keep eating them and you are allergic those mild symptoms may turn into bigger ones maybe even severe, i have had experience with allergies and my allergies started just like that.

Q: how do you know if you're sufferinf from food allergy?what are the symptoms?

A: * skin reactions, such as swelling and itching, eczema and flushing * vomiting and/or diarrhoea * coughing, wheezing or a runny nose * swelling of the lips * sore, red and itchy eyes

Q: Does anyone have a food allergy that created a chronic fatigue, along with other symptoms?

A: Hi ME, The immune system is like a stack of dominoes in which when part of it gets out of balance the other parts tumble after wards.Chronic Fatigue is a symptom, and it can also evolve into the full syndrome, call CFIDS or Chronic Fatigue Immune deficiency syndrome, this syndrome also has several symptoms all related to an imbalance in the immune system.Once your immune system is weakened, you are prone to developing auto-immune related syndromes. If you are an allergic person that is a red flag you are more prone to developing other immune related problems. If you are experiencing fatigue and other symptoms, this could mean you are still consuming something you are allergic too,or you have developed another problem. You should have a thorough medical evaluation to rule out the possibilities.
